Heading into the final stretch on my latest video, in which I give you guys an update on our house remodel this past year... What a journey it has been, and we're not even halfway done!
Truth is I hate the whole DIY process, from running to the store, to getting into a project, to hanging in there until it's finally done...
Cecilia and I both agree that it's the end result that we love, but she's able to hang in there and put in the elbow grease (without complaints) in a way that I can't.
Which are you in your relationship?

Putting the final touches on my latest video... on the topic of us getting healthy again.
We share a number of things that we've doing over the last few months to get back on a healthy path now that we're finally settled here in the French countryside.
But we also talk about the real reasons why it matters to be healthy. It's a really good question to ask and reflect on. And one that led to some real insight for me in the course of producing this installment.
So eager to hear what you guys out there think on the topic...
More real soon. :)

Woohoo!!! Officially done with all these driving shenanigans!
OK, so as promised, here are some details on my long journey to get to this point:
1. Started studying for the written exam early last year. Got myself a couple of books from Codes Rousseau, one with all the crazy rules, and the other with sample test questions. I worked with that up to the point when we moved to our new home, which was last July.
All in French, by the way. Figured I might as well use it to improve my French... :)
2. In August, went to a local driving school to inquire about taking the written exam, and the guy asked how I had been preparing. Told him it was through books and he laughed. He quickly explained that what I did was WAY too theoretical and that for real learning, I had to get online.
So I signed up with Rousseau (who own the market, but also do a great job with materials) and began studying online (in earnest once again) all the material BUT ALSO taking a ton of sample tests, which was instrumental to getting well-prepared...
3. Took the written exam back in December and miraculously passed it! When I left, I thought that at best, out of 40 questions, I had gotten in the low 30s. Turns out I came in at a nice 36. :) You need 35 to pass.
Quite a celebratory moment after so many months of hard work!
4. Had to change driving schools because my local guy had some health issues. Originally, they (the new school) gave me a May date for my driving test. (Warning: they get very busy, more so as you approach summer, so you need to book well in advance. But you can't do that until you pass the written exam!)
They assessed me, and I luckily got 6 hours worth of driving lessons, given my extensive background. Lovely bunch of people who were also able to pull the dates back so that eventually I was given an April 2nd driving test date. So great to be able to shave a whole month plus off...
5. My driving instructor said he would put in a good word for me given my 40+ years of experience and how well I did with him, and as a result, the test was super easy. The driving examiner had me do practically nothing (he chatted the whole 25 minutes with my instructor's wife, who co-runs the schools and rode in the back, and the two would not stop laughing!).
Goes to show you how doing diligent work and having the right connections can make all the difference. :)
And there you have it! My journey to getting my driver license here in France...
And for all of you who are wondering: No, I was not able to do a license exchange, because we are from Oregon. Only 15 states are allowed to do that, which completely sucks for the rest of us. It's literally the difference between doing a simple exchange and having to spend what feel like endless months learning and preparing.
But I don't regret any of it. I learned a ton of French, made sure that I took the lessons for manual driving (which I can do very well, but also does complicate the learning process), and ultimately got to the finish line, which feels very satisfying.
To all of you about to embark on this crazy journey or already on your way... best of luck! :)

Hello, I'm Josh. A guy in his 50s who's exploring life and what really matters in this existence.
The more I search, the more I find that it's really all about what's happening inside of us, our own experience of the people and things around us.
In other words, it is much more about the internal than the external.
In this channel, I will dig deeper into those feelings and share my stories of discovery, in as real and authentic a way as possible.
Thanks for watching. :)
