From birth, a few things are decided for us: who our parents are, which family we belong to, which economic condition we are in, and what religion we will belong to. Though we can’t change our parents, we can change our religion. But that’s not what we are talking about. We will be discussing why we want a religion, why religion becomes so important in our lives, and above all, why religion was invented.
As per my thinking, religion provides answers about the natural phenomena that occur around us. It explains why something bad happens to a person or why something good happens to a person, why someone is suffering or why someone is happy. Religion has an answer for these questions, giving people the explanations they need at particular times in their lives.
Religion Gives a Community: Religion provides a community where people can meet like-minded individuals following the same ideas and beliefs. Religion accepts people and does not leave them feeling left out.
To Make Complex Things Easier: With whatever little understanding of God we have, religion helps us make sense of the events happening in our surroundings, whether good or bad. It allows us to attribute these phenomena to a higher power, believing that God is responsible.
Religion Uplifts the Morale of People: If the whole world did not follow the teachings of religion, there would be no moral compass. People do good because of the moral guidance provided by their religious teachings.
Providing Comfort and Meaning: Religion offers a sense of purpose, community, and comfort, especially in the face of difficult life events like illness, natural disasters, and death. The belief in an afterlife or divine plan helps people cope with mortality and find meaning in suffering.
Tradition and Cultural Identity: Religion is often deeply connected with cultural traditions, history, and identity. Passing down religious beliefs and practices helps preserve a group’s heritage and values across generations.
Maybe religion doesn’t make sense to some people, but religion is important for humans. Religion may NOT need a man to follow, but a man needs to follow religion.
