Dear friends of music,

2024 is my most musically productive year, as shown in the catalogue below. Under the guidance of my piano teacher, Dr. Lise Keiter, I have started to explore other composers, which in turn enhanced my technique and interpretation of Bach, and led to an explosion in my repertoire. In fact, for all the keyboard repertoire videos posted after late 2022, I studied them with my teacher. I have no doubt that, along this trajectory of growth, my future years would be ever more productive and my music more refined.

But sadly, this projection may no longer be true, for I will soon be entering a new life stage that demands much of my spare time. I have suspended my piano lessons for now, and apart from a few backlog pieces, there will be no keyboard repertoire videos until I decide if I can make the time commitment to resume lessons or learn by myself. This does not apply to arrangements though; my goal for 2025 is to finish off my transcription of the St John Passion. So I will still likely be uploading new videos, but they will be less frequent.

In the overall scheme of things, I cannot brag about my productivity at all; even with so many Bach videos I have but only touched the tip of the iceberg of his music. Bach's productivity is a profound mystery, and how he was able to accomplish so much - and of such quality - with 20 children is an even bigger mystery to me.

I deeply appreciate all the support, encouragement, and critical feedback from you. I know almost none of you in person, yet we have found a resonance that holds this channel together. I wish you all great success and motivation in your pursuits in 2025.

Happy New Year,
Ruoshi

My piano transcription of St John Passion Part One (mvmts 1-14) is now available on Patreon. Thank you for your support! www.patreon.com/RuoshiSun/shop/st-john-passion-par…

I dedicate this work to my first piano teacher Ms. Ho Fai Li (李荷輝), with whom I had my final lesson around this time exactly 20 years ago. In her departing words she encouraged me to keep playing, which I did up to this day.

Today I am pleased to announce the launch of my Patreon www.patreon.com/RuoshiSun/shop where you can purchase my scores that are not on IMSLP*. There is no membership/subscription fee and I don't anticipate making any member-only videos. If you have a special request (a bundle of various movements) please feel free to leave a comment. Note the minimum price is $3 for a product - this is imposed by Patreon.

I am also using the same username for my go (aka weiqi/baduk) books so just ignore those. I wish they had the capability to categorize the products.

There will be a major video planned for this weekend (tomorrow?). Stay tuned!

*It has come to my attention that some people are publishing my videos on other platforms and selling my scores uploaded to IMSLP. I'm aware that the latter is permitted by the CC license, but I didn't anticipate such blatancy. I will still provide some of my arrangements for free.

Today I become a YouTube Partner. As an amateur musician with a very narrow repertoire, I never expected my channel would receive such a level of support and encouragement. (Thank you!) If through these videos I was able to bring out certain aspects of music compositions that you weren't aware of, or rekindled your lost hobby, or motivated you to dig deeper into something you're passionate about, then my channel would have served its purpose.
