20 years ago today, August 21, 2001, Aaliyah did her last television appearance on BET's 106 & Park to give away the grand prize of her “Get Paid in the Escalade Contest.”
Aaliyah spoke about her career, the recent release of her self-titled album, her favourite music videos she’s been in, why she's never owned a car and her upcoming music video for the single "Rock the Boat" (which began production the next day).
Tragically, after filming her scenes for the video, Aaliyah, only 22 years old, perished in a plane crash along with eight others in the Bahamas on August 25, 2001. Aaliyah, also known as Baby Girl, will be forever loved and missed.
