But this verse, found in John’s description of Jesus’ life, has much more depth than a surface reading might suggest.
In this day and age, love is seen as a fleeting thing but here Jesus is literally commanding His followers to love each other as He has loved them.
How did He love?
He gave up everything, His very life, for those He loved.
Can we do the same?
Do we love people like that?

Love that is sacrificial, a choice to put our own comfort and desires second and put others first. ✝️
