Knowing somebody will always trump experience, certs & degrees. You can just bypass the entire hiring system if you know the right person.
If you don’t know the right person, your resume needs to have documented experience to get the interview.
If you don’t have experience, your resume needs to have a valid certification demonstrating you at least understand the stuff you are trying to get employed in.
When it comes to college degrees in tech, they are typically only useful for attaining certain positions where a degree is absolutely mandatory (like computer science, data science, IT college professor, moving up to management or executive positions, etc).
There are a plethora of entry-level jobs that do not require a degree. Yes, the job description will say you need a degree, but that’s just to scare people off from applying for the job so that the hiring manager doesn’t have to sift through hundreds or thousands of potential applicants. Apply anyway if you know you can do at least 50% of the stuff in the job posting.
