Welcome to the Official Sam Houston State University YouTube channel! Founded in 1879, Sam Houston State University is located in Huntsville, Texas on 272 wooded acres. The beautiful main campus is surrounded by forests, lakes, and ranch land but is located just 60 miles north of Houston. SHSUs motto is The Measure of a Life is its Service and its mission is to provide excellence by continually improving quality education, scholarship, and service to its students and to the appropriate regional state, national, and international constituencies. SHSU is accredited by the Commission of the Southern Associate of Colleges and Schools and offers 79 undergraduate degree programs, 54 masters programs, and 5 doctoral programs. Approximate enrollment for fall 2009 is 16,795 with an average class size of 31 students and a faculty-student ratio of 1:20.
