When I first traveled to Sri Lanka in 2022, I could never have imagined how deeply the Lord would knit the people of this nation into my heart.
My first trip was met with significant opposition, as extremist groups attempted to derail our crusade. There were risks of deportation or imprisonment beginning to surface, and the tension and spiritual intimidation I faced were unlike anything I had ever experienced. I remember falling to my knees in my hotel room, pouring out my heart in prayer and intercession—it was all I knew to do as a deep travail came over me.
That night, as I stepped into the pulpit for the first time in Sri Lanka, I was overwhelmed by a profound love for the people. The tension lifted, and I sensed with certainty that God would open the country to me if I committed to returning in the years to come.
That night, I preached differently. I was a different man. God was with me. We witnessed many souls saved and miracles unfold.
What happened next left us all in awe. A young woman who had been demonized and out of her mind for five years due to a curse placed upon her life was set free. Her mother stood nearby, weeping and confirming what had taken place. Both were Hindus, and both responded to Christ that night.
After the service, I learned that the extremist group opposing us had published an article in the newspaper earlier that day. The article, which mentioned me by name, asked: “Can Alex Parkinson cast out devils that came from witchcraft curses?”
When the pastor shared this, he jumped to his feet and shouted, “I think they got their answer!”
From that day forward, I’ve never allowed the spirit of fear to trouble me. With God’s favor, I’ve moved confidently and freely in the land, returning three times now and witnessing thousands come to salvation.
I look forward to continuing to labor in this field in 2025. Stay tuned.

On many occasions in the gospels, we read that Jesus was “moved with compassion.” I found something powerful when studying this—there’s a direct link between Jesus’ compassion and His charge to pray for workers in the harvest.
In Matthew 9:35-38 through to Matthew 10:1, we see this connection unfold:
“Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the Kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into the harvest.’ Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.” (Matt. 9:35-10:1)
I write about compassion in-depth in my book Partakers of the Divine, but in short, we see Jesus faithfully ministering through preaching, teaching, and healing until one day, He was moved with compassion as He saw people who were distressed and dispirited. It was as if He realized He was just one man—His heart for the harvest was deep, but the workers were few. So, He called His disciples and gave them authority to continue His work.
The key takeaway: this authority was birthed from His compassion. Compassion is the vehicle for the miraculous and the key to spiritual authority.
When we align with Jesus’ heart for the lost, His power flows through us to bring healing, deliverance, and restoration to those who suffer. Faith expressed through love serves as a mighty catalyst for great Kingdom exploits!
