Hello and a big thanks to all my new subscribers!
Over the last 28 days I’ve gained 55 subscribers, which is pretty good considering I didn’t even have 30 subscribers a month ago!
In other news, the recording for Candyman is done. It’s a bit of a different script structure and style of recording to what I did on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre video I think, it definitely feels a bit slower and less choppy. We’ll see how the reception goes. I’ve still got to edit it yet but the first section of that is done.
Speaking of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, my video on it cracked over 1000 views and 100 watch hours the other day. Thanks so much. It’s kind of unreal to think 1000s of people have watched you, but they have.
In terms of statistics - which I’m happy to share more of if people are interested - my audience is overwhelmingly American, which is pretty neat but not too unexpected. Shout out to the 0.4% of viewers from Uzbekistan though 🇺🇿- that means there’s around 10-15 of you who have watched my channel which is pretty cool.
Besides that, I have not much more to say. Life is busy which gets in the way of making videos, but I will try to keep up one video a week for the next few weeks. I have a couple ‘bonus’ episodes I’ve been considering that aren’t just looking at one movie but an aspect of a number of movies. Hopefully I get the chance to start making some of those at the end of the year.
In the meantime, enjoy October, the best time of the year, stay safe and get ready for Halloween - and tune in later this week for Candyman.
Cheerio.

Instead of the Candyman video - which I'm still working on - I put out a quicker, simpler video about a movie that is far easier to talk about - Wrong Turn 3. The video is a bit less formal than my others but hopefully its still entertaining enough and satiates you all whilst I work on Candyman. No ETA for when that will come out, but hopefully its before next Sunday.

Hello everyone - especially to the many new subscribers who have tuned over these last few weeks.
The Candyman video will be out tomorrow (that is, the 5th of October). I hope this one is just as well received as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre video - which is now my most watched thanks to all of you. With Candyman I intend to blend that same thematic analysis I did in Texas Chainsaw Massacre with a bit more of a traditional review format - we'll see how it pans out. Most importantly though I want to ensure that my thematic analysis is not just repeating what others have said.
There's a lot of scholarship on Candyman, but much of it is focused on analysis of the film and the ways in which it relates to race in American context. There are many great videos exploring this already, plenty of journal articles and even an entire legacy sequel attempting to tackle it. Candyman is in part inseparable from this analysis - but it is also not the only angle - and I hope you will enjoy the different lens I choose to examine Candyman through.
We're now entering October - which is both the busiest time of the year for horror in general thanks to Halloween - but also an increasingly busy time in my personal life. With that in mind I will endeavour to keep releasing a video weekly, but some of those videos may not be as in depth as Texas or Candyman are, and will instead likely be tier lists or rankings.
If you've read all this thank you - and if you haven't subscribed but still read all of this - a double thanks if you would subscribe. In the mean time, I ought to get back to working on the Candyman video.
Cheerio.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre video is up!
If you haven't seen it yet, go and watch it. It's one of my longest videos (certainly the longest edited video) on the channel, and one that I put a lot of time into researching and scripting. It's one I am quite happy with - especially with the opening scrawl - so I do hope whoever ends up reading this chooses to give it a look, and if you are not a subscriber yet, but you somehow still find this post, well maybe I might convince you to subscribe.
Cheerio.
Ps. Candyman video will be coming next week... and maybe some other special one-off projects too...

Given the result of this week's poll, the next film to be covered on the History of Horror series will be Tobe Hooper's 1974 masterpiece, Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
I've already started the research and script writing for this video, and its getting long. This is one of, if not my favorite, horror film of all time, and its very very rich thematically and in terms of composition. Given that, the script is already one of the longest I've written, and the video looks like it might end up being double the length of the others in the series. In particular I've been focusing a lot on the history which surrounds the film, and some thematic analysis of it, so I hope that will be interesting to you all.
I hope that you will enjoy the video when it comes out. To make sure you see it when it does, please subscribe if you haven't already. I intend to have it out by the end of Friday or Saturday.
Ps. The next film I do after Texas will probably be Candyman (1992) given the response on the poll, but if you'd like to see something else, definitely leave a comment. If you'd like to see the next poll I release, definitely subscribe as well.
Pps. Look at this behind the scenes photo of Gunnar Hansen (Leatherface, Left) and William Vail (Kirk, Right). Isn't it neat? The behind the scenes drama on set was pretty bad, given the terrible working conditions, but they seem to be having fun in this photo at least!

Another episode in the History of Horror series went up yesterday!
This time we're taking a look at the first HP Lovecraft adaptation for the big screen, The Haunted Palace - starring Vincent Price and directed by William Castle.
If you haven't already, head on over and take a look at it, then let me know what you think!

As we approach Halloween, I intend to look at the History of Horror, an ongoing series of quick reviews/retrospectives, focusing on the highlights in horror movie history, whether those highlights be some of the greats (as in this case) or some of the worst. Enjoy!

Video essay up on the Gothic elements of A Nightmare on Elm Street. I think the Gothic elements of the film are really what makes it so distinctive and fondly remembered. Check out the video and let me know if you think the gothic elements are persuasive!
