That's a wrap 2024

For New Years Eve, we dropped a bunch of programs we got off of one tape - this tape. We got it from an awesome facebook VHS seller who said he had recovered it from being taken to landfill in the lower 48, and it is indeed jumble packed with "Misc. Alaska Pictures 1986."

Something cosmic is going on, and we aren't talking about the drone sightings.

First off, we got a computer in town that still had some files, and there was a full recording of AK Radio from December 13, 2003! There is a lot of cool aviation history covered, like the Civil Air Patrol, and the Fairbanks story about "Stone Soup." That is posted now for your listening pleasure - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQNyb...

Secondly, we bought some 8mm color reels online a few weeks back, below is a photo of one of them. Little did we know that the new Juneau Icebreaker is going to be named "Storis", the same name as the previous boat that was in service in 1942 to 2007. Lots of the details are covered over at Juneau Empire ( www.juneauempire.com/news/reports-juneau-icebreake… ) To mark this announcement, we plan to show a digitization of this 1953 footage from aboard the Storis during the stream on Sunday, so hope you'll join us then!

A separate video of the film will be posted afterwards. We are working on an alternative method for 8mm than what we have been using so far, and we are liking the results.

Happy Thanksgiving Juneau, we hope there are folks you can enjoy a turkey with today. While you wait on it to cook, why not check out a great 1992 Rain Country program by KTOO-TV about The Public Market? Which starts... *checks calendar* ...TOMORROW! Have a great long weekend, and we'll still see you Sunday!

Interesting Event this Weekend! Juneau is on the tour route for the ‪@FoundFootageFest‬'s 20th anniversary tour!

Tonight (Friday 11/15) and Tomorrow (11/16) at Gold Town, 7pm. Of course the TakuForTwo crew has had this on our radar to attend; thank you to the several friends who tagged us in multiple posts/sent us the poster 😅

Ticket are at the door and I guess, we shall see what we shall see~! Looks like fun 👀

"Live on-stage comedy with VHS

Joe Pickett (The Onion) and Nick Prueher (Late Show) have over 13,000 VHS tapes in their collection and have been taking viewers on a guided tour through their latest and greatest finds since 2004. To celebrate two decades of this VHS nonsense, they will serve up their all-time greatest finds including the dumbest exercise videos, the craziest public access shows and updates with the most wonderful weirdos they’ve met along the way. (90 mins – nudity, language)"

Happy Daylight Savings! We are still sticking to 7pm tonight, and will be showing some Indigenous focused Rain Country programs for this year's Alaska Native Heritage Month.

During the wait, check out our latest uploads. We got very lucky with a used blank Juneau tape we recovered and got lots of commercials. Also, an interesting duo of programs, "Glaciers of Southeast Alaska" and "A Pipeline .... and Animals!".

We are currently working on tomorrow's stream, it will feature programs about small Alaska communities. During the wait, we'd suggest checking out the Navy's apology for the Angoon bombardment streamed by Sealaska Heritage Institute. We previously posted a VHS from 1982 that talks about the history of the devastation, 100 years after the event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_wwR...

Special Programming tonight for the Taku-TV 7pm Sunday Stream :) We were fortunate enough to finally get our hands on a VHS release of Jay Hammonds Alaska, that has an episode featuring a familiar voice from the POV 1993 Alaska Cable Network video; as well as tonight we're gonna feature our first full rudimentary attempts at digitization of some 8mm reels!

Juneau Community Calendar featuring Alaskan Music and newly Digitized Clips, all tonight here at 7pm AKST: Same Great time, from the Same Great State~!

We'll be putting together a Taku For Two "How It's Made" video soon, especially since we just found out how to patch our Panasonic mixer board into OBS!

This might end up tweaking how we make our Sunday programs, but we'd still love to show you how we've been making them up till now. The goal is to eliminate as much post work as possible and make the stream a true live analog program using only the mixer board, and the VCRs connected to it.
