🐍🎉 Today is World Snake Day! Here at Quepos we come across a lot of different species of snakes: according to a 2012 species inventory of Manuel Antonio National Park, there are at least 42 species of colubrids and 2 species of boas that live within the park alone! Pictured here we have one of our favorites: an eyelash viper, better known here as bocaracá (Bothriechis schlegelii).
🐍🎉 ¡Hoy es el Día Mundial de la Serpiente! Aquí en Quepos nos encontramos con un montón de especies diferentes de serpientes: según un inventario de especies del SINAC (2012) del Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio, ¡hay al menos 42 especies de colúbridos y 2 especies de boas que viven dentro del parque! En esta foto tenemos una de nuestras favoritas: una bocaracá (Bothriechis schlegelii).

👀🪶 A Common Potoo that one of our guides, Gerardo Artavia, expertly spotted during our guided walks through Manuel Antonio National Park (Quepos, Costa Rica).
📝😫 Here's a fun fact: while these guys have a pretty standardized name in English, there's at least 17 common names used across Latin America. This is quite common for birds here, which makes things ..."fun", if you're a local bird enthusiast!

👀🪶 Un pájaro estaca que uno de nuestros guías, Gerardo Artavia, expertamente avistó durante nuestras caminatas guiadas por el Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio (Quepos, Costa Rica).
📝😫 Un dato curioso: aunque estos pájaros tienen un nombre estandarizado en inglés, en Latinoamérica se utilizan al menos 17 nombres comunes. Esto es bastante común para las aves de aquí, lo que hace las cosas ... "divertidas", si eres un entusiasta de aves local.
