For more than a century and a half, the California National Guard has had a proud history of serving the State of California as well as the Nation.
The California National Guard is comprised of both Army and Air National Guard components and is the second largest national guard force in the United States with a total strength of more than 22,000 soldiers and airmen.
Today, the California National Guard has transformed from a Strategic Reserve to a fully-deployable operational force supporting missions around the globe.
The California National Guard is proud of its distinguished history of helping Californians in times of need. We have come to the aid of Californians during fires, earthquakes, floods and other state emergencies. Just this last summer, California National Guard aircraft dropped millions of gallons of water and retardant and also on fires in Northern California.
