Sometimes you have to take some time away (or 2 years 👀) to rediscover what you love.

I'm not sure what I want to do with this channel, but I miss drawing. I DON'T however miss the pressures of recording, presenting and narrating and editing, and I'm even less of a fan of the analytics that came from it all.
I always found it disheartening when after many, many hours of drawing and recording and editing, I'd put the video out there and saw the retention graph drop like a rock after (that's the data behind the scenes that viewers rarely ever see)
That retention graph showed me that despite the few of you who do watch my videos from start to end, 90% or more never bothered to watch after the first 20 seconds, and that was usually because I started talking.

I'm debating what I want to do with my videos in the future.
I could take it back to its original days when I WOULDN'T edit anything, I would barely even talk, I'd just draw and put it out online and see if anyone was interested in watching it.

These days YouTube (or the process of it anyway) is so focused on topic, research, analysis, analytics, data, evaluating that data, audience retention, optimal pacing to not bore the viewer... I mean, I get bored in videos and quickly leave if the video isn't interesting enough either, but trying to work out how to make the video interesting just is beyond the scope of what I want to do on YouTube.
I don't want to be a videographer, editor, sound engineer, script writer, and analysis reviewer on my videos... I just want to draw things that look cool. The problem is you need to be all those things if you actually want to make videos on this platform, and if the audience retention graph isn't any good (i.e i'm boring to watch) then YouTube will never push out my content, because why would they if my videos are boring to 90% of the people watching.

I'm thinking that maybe I won't do tutorials anymore. I know Jazza stopped doing that years ago because in this era of YouTube, tutorials don't perform and I'm not a fan of the idea of spending days worth of work on a dinosaur I'm not even that interested in, only for the views to stop because the audience retention is bad.

I'm thinking if maybe I'll change this channel into a more of a shorts focused channel, where instead of teaching you how to draw (I might still do that, I do enjoy teaching techniques from time to time) I instead just focus on drawing, and show you a quick 10-20 second speed drawing of that. It'll be a bit like a regular art gallery, but in video format instead.

There's still a lot to think about, and i'm not known for being a fast thinker :P so for whoever is still here after 2 years of me being inactive, thanks for being patient. I just had no real desire to create videos, and I think some of you saw that between 2019-2022 when the amount of videos I WOULD do was sparse. There was one year where I think I only released 1 or 2 videos, so I think that gives you an idea of my dwindling passion for making videos (but not dwindling passion for DRAWING).
Again it was a lot of pressure trying to think in a production mindset when all I wanted to do was draw, and drawing is how I RELAX... so if what I do to relax, starts making me stressed, then that's not great.

I also wasn't a fan of Jurassic World Dominion, I found it quite disappointing, which is why I never really drew anything from it (other than Giganotosaurus)

Anyway, I'll meditate on this some more and see if I figure out what I want to do.

Cancer touches so many of our lives, and it's effecting yet another person I know. Owen's friends have set up a gofundme to help him keep fighting the good fight.
You can donate here to help someone you might not even know out > www.gofundme.com/f/life-wins-...

This image is a collaboration between myself and Daniel, Super_Gojira on Instagram (youtube seems to only allow one link) from the video I posted just over a month ago.

(trying this again because the image didn't post the first time around)

Dinosaur skin is so fascinating to me. I really think drawing dinosaur skin has always been half the fun for me.

When trying to find a positive out of a negative, losing a mother the week after mother's day means there's always an abundance of flowers at the cemetary to keep things colourful. And the weather was nice today.

I should probably get back to drawing soon. Life always carries on, even when life ends. That's just how life is. And as I've been saying a lot latley... Life really do be like that sometimes.

I wanted to make a video specifically for mother's day, but after losing my grandmother recently, and attending her funeral last week, I didn't have the emotional energy to really want to talk. It's been a rough couple of weeks. This time of year is already tough enough, and that's initially what I wanted to make a video about, but now mother's day has additional pain. Losing my grandmother the week before mother's day, and having lost my mother the week after mother's day.

I know another one of my viewers is having a tough time as well with his mother having cancer, which is another reason why wanted to talk about in the video because he wants to spread the hashtag #DinosaursVsCancer or #DinosaursVCancer but this week was just too rough for me mentally to do that, so I'm sorry about that.

I suppose it doesn't have to be mother's day to spread the awareness of what it's like losing a mother, and the memories and mental scars we carry on for the rest of our lives because of it, especially on Mother's day.

If you're one of the ones who's lost your mum, or your mum is ill, stay strong. I hate to say this especially during this pandemic, but this is the new normal, it takes a long time to mentally adjust to such changes of not having them with us anymore, but unfortunately we're not the first people to lose a mother, and sadly we won't be the last. Remember the good times, and try to make something positive that they would be proud of <3

I want to know a little more about your viewing habits, and if it really matters what time I publish (when I do publish, which I should be doing more regularly)

Ideally, what time do you prefer to watch videos, before the day starts? lunch time? when you've come home or after dinner?
And are you a weekday person, or a weekend viewer?
Also, let me know which part of the world you're from :)
I know I have a truly global audience, and I'm glad that my videos can bring you joy and inspiration, even if English isn't your first language. Art truly is a global passion and it's fantastic that I can share and connect with so many areas around the globe. Sometimes it's very intimidating knowing how many people from around the globe watch be, but it's also very cool! I'm just some dude who draws dinosaurs (and sometimes Godzillas) so I'm grateful to have any impact in your life :)

Busy productive afternoon of drawing dinosaur stick figures. Quite a few potentials in there now for some new spinosaurus drawings, an accurate trex vs accurate spinosaurus, and of course I still have a full mecha godzilla I want to draw.
Lots of stuff to edit now. I'll try not to take too long in getting these out 😬😂

Shoutout if you're not already subscribed and just accidently finding this post 😉 if you like this, I got a lot more things you might enjoy as well 😉 wink wink nudge nudge.

Do you still look at stories?
YouTube took away the stories tab from channels (as well as limiting stories to channels with over 10k subs so you might not even know stories was a thing)

You can still see stories on the main YouTube browse page, but if you want to know if I've shared a story (they last 7 days) see if there's a red ring around my profile picture. If there's a red ring it means of stories available to view for 7 days. But I might just focus that energy on community tab posts instead.

Interestingly enough my story posts sometimes get double the views my regular videos get 😂

Here's a preview of my recent glorious story previews 😎😆
