LOVES; Postcard, Whaam!, Creation.
After seeing the TVPs,Marychain & Biff Bang Pow! in 1984 i felt compelled to do something for myself.
In honour of the Scottish fanzines(Communication Blur, Bombs Away Batman, Juniper Beri Beri, Slow Dazzle), i decided to do a Teutonic variation called Caledonia UberAlles.
Then in early '85 I saw Edward Ball's The Times. I'd really loved the first three albums Go! With The Times, Pop Goes Art! & This Is London and live they were fantastic - i've included 4 here. Even songs from Hello Europe (which I furiously hated) sounded ok.
I did my first (and last ever) interview with Edward Ball. He seemed oblivious of the other bands i liked, talking only of Ray Davies, and playwrights. Much of these people's work he spoke of i've since managed to track down with much effort and have learnt to appreciate most of it which i now share with you - but i still HATE Hello Europe. I've tracked down this live footage of The Times from that same tour.
Enjoy.
