I need your help! Comment below if you have any experience with being recommended either "boy" or "girl" books.
Why? I've seen one too many Instagram Reels claiming "ten great books for boys" or "Top ten girl books"
and boy and girl books are just not a thing. In fact the thinking behind them usually leans really heavily on gender stereotypes.
Girls typically read books with both boy and girl protagonists, but typically boys only read books about other boys.
Do we really need to be training boys from such a young age that only the books that center on them matter?
I'm working on a video to talk about all of this and would love some stories if you've ever had an experience with this. Has anyone ever told you you couldn't read a book because it was "for girls" or "for boys" and you were not that gender?
Thanks in advance!

Facebook comment turning into a video soon!
Someone on a Facebook group I'm part of (for grownups of ninja warrior athletes) said they wanted their 4th grader to read more over the summer...they were looking for books on ninja or similar that their kid would like. There aren't that many books on ninja, and I used my bookseller expertise and wrote a REALLY long comment suggesting how they can get their kid excited about reading and find books to read.
Then I thought, "okay, I should make a video on this!"
So, coming soon! Get excited!

Shoutout to @FACELESSVR_GT for recommending the Mars Patel series; got all three from the library and am almost done with the first. Good friends who accept and support each other, solving mysteries, with documents, texts, and podcast transcripts helping to tell the story? Really fun! I'll for sure do a video on these, and if you're looking for a fun middle grade series, read these!

Friend!
I'm still here.
Only a bit busy with work at the moment. I am doing a lot of work for one of my jobs, including working on gathering info from people who will replace me (I'm leaving that job of almost five years to go more full time at my teaching job, in August). I've also started my own version of 75 hard (video coming soon) that I'm seven days into and feeling really good about.
I have tons of videos to edit, including visiting 10 indie bookstores between Indie Bookstore Day (at the end of April) and the end of May.
I am building up some reviews too.
I am excited to get back to sharing more videos with you and will do that as soon as it can fit in to what I have going on.
I want to put out the best videos I can, not just videos because I can, if you know what I mean!
Thanks for hanging around!

Working on some postcards today...and working on a video coming soon about options for writing postcards/letters, like organizations you can do it with, and I discovered something: it seems like there aren't any organizations that aim to get Republican voters out to vote.
Now maybe my search results/algorithm just won't lead me to them? But I searched a ton and couldn't find any. Strange.
Postcards are a great option to be involved from home. I love them because they help me take action whenever I can, which really helps my anxiety.

I'm writing lots of scripts for videos I want to film...
haven't been in the mood to film and listening to my mental health instead of pushing through it.
This isn't a "push through" thing, as much as all the self-help bros would want me to think
(fun fact I rarely read personal growth books by men because a lot of their advice, especially around time management,
requires anyone who follows it to have a wife who takes care of so many other things so they can have their uninterrupted 10 hour days...
I have a great husband and there's no way that's happening!)
Listening to myself is the most important.
I know I'll get back to filming videos soon.
In the meantime I have a ton to edit,
and lots of ideas in the tank!
Thanks for sticking around.

Nightly Reading Check In:
We watched the Survivor 46 Finale today and I about screamed when I saw a podcaster I know will be on the show! I listen to the podcast he's on (Pod Save America) and when he said he was going to be gone for some weeks I honestly thought it was Survivor...and it turned out to be true!
Lots of reading to the kids today, not so much for me because I had a PTA meeting (got voted in as Recording Secretary for next year, see I can already get those votes, get me on Survivor!) and walked for an hour for a workout.
Got a new book: Dialed In: Do Your Best When It Matters Most
today about sports psychology, I hope it will help with ninja.
Off to bed to read Mercury, a book I picked up from a LFL a while back.
What did you read today?

Nightly reading check in:
I ran with an idea today and didn't get much reading done to get it accomplished.
Heading up to bed to read a bit of Pyschology of Money.
Had hoped to get more reading in but got sucked into watching Reels on Instagram.
I have to remind myself I never feel good after that,
but I always feel good after reading.
What did you read today?
And any tips to NOT get sucked into scrolling on social media?

I just made a BOOK MENU experience for a gift for my co-teachers!
They can "order" a book from the menu (each one is labeled FICTION or NONFICTION and the year it was published),
I'll put it in a to go bag (brown paper bag) with a guest check taped to it with a little bit about the book (taken from the menu description!) and every order comes with some chocolate, a bag of microwave popcorn, and a fidget to keep their hands busy while reading (it helps to not reach for your phone!)
I am also printing a second menu where every menu item is named the book title so they will know all the titles if they want to try to find one of the books on their own!
I also included how many ratings each book has on the A site, and the average rating.
And there's a chef special section with books that I have two of as well.
Overall there are 14 different books, 16 total books, so the ten of my co-teachers will have choices.
I think I'll have them pull numbers to do the ordering order!
I'm excited to see how it goes and I will make a video about it soon so you can do something similar if you want!
Let me know if you have any questions or if anything I described here isn't clear so I can make sure to talk more about it in the video!
