Does anyone else have like 5 books on the go at once? Here's everything I'm reading right now and some brief thoughts!
The Return of Ellie Black by Emiko Jean: I am SUCKED in to this one! A thriller with litfic energy about a kidnapped girl whose return brings up more questions than it answers. Great for fans of procedurals (I'm an SVU girlie myself)!
The King's Men by Nora Sakavic: I have been savoring this one I'm not going to lie! I've been reading it for like a year and I don't want it to end 🤭
Intermezzo by Sally Rooney: I'm enjoying it, I'm just having trouble getting stuck in.
Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel: My favorite things--history of Tudor England and beautiful lyrical writing--combined in this excellent novel.
Wicked: Already so different to the movie HAHA! Like so much more explicit and strange than I could have imagined but I'm enjoying it!

She's back!! Today I'm talking about everything I was "wrong" about in 2024 🤭

Okay okay so I wasn't wrong about *everything* I talk about last year, and some of the things I'm mentioning I stand behind, but there were a couple of things I was wrong about! I'm talking in depth about them in the video below 🤗

✨If the last couple of weeks have been hard for you, you're not alone. If my history master's program has taught me anything, it's that the world we live in doesn't just happen, it's constructed.

If you've looked around at the current state of the U.S. and felt fear, disenfranchisement, or despair, I hope this video can help. It's a little about the history of how we got here and where we (the bl**ding hearts of the world) can go from here (with a couple of--hopefully--comedic interludes).
Check out my latest video below! (Chapters included in case you're just wanting to get to the nitty gritty)

**GoFundMe Update!**
I am *officially* in the UK at University of Edinburgh 🥳🥳🥳

I just wanted to give an update for everyone who's so graciously been a part of this journey with me 😊

Thank you to everyone on here who shared my fundraiser, who contributed to it, who just looked at it and sent positive thoughts my way. Thanks to your kindness and generosity, I've made it to school and have been able to pay for housing while I wait to move into a flat.

I'm keeping the GoFundMe open because every dollar quite literally counts, so it will continue to be linked in my descriptions and I'll probably still be mentioning it in videos.

Thank you again! Look forward to some uni content coming at you soon-ish (along with part 2 of my ACOSF video FINALLY lmao)

Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights has cast its Heathcliff and Cathy! What do you think?

Personally I hate it! I first and foremost am in the camp of dark-skinned Heathcliff, but I know emerald doesn’t really work with people who don’t pass the paper bag test 🫣 However if Heathcliff is going to be ⚪️ AT LEAST cast an actor of questionable facial beauty.
I’m supposed to believe that JACOB ELORDI is the shunned, hated adopted child of the Earnshaw family?! That man is so gorgeous they’d be begging him to marry Cathy!

Also no ageism but I do find casting a woman in her 30s to play a character to doesn’t even make it to her 19th birthday is……. A choice. Catherine is an interesting character but is (imo) just too bare on the page for an actress like Margo. I’d be much more interested in seeing her play Isabella Linton who could reasonably be aged up (impending spinsterdom as a motivation to marry the only single man for miles, Heathcliff) and who is, at least in my view, much more active of a character.

Hate this casting and will probably hate this movie BUT I’m willing to at least give it a chance (to disappoint me).

💬Do you have a dream fancast for Cathy and Heathcliff?

Quick and dirty book reviews:
1. House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas DNF @ 102 pages
If you watched my “chaotic friend picks my TBR video” you know I was tasked with readying the first book in the crescent city cycle. My god. The stress I inflicted upon myself desperately attempting to get through this book…. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone!
I hate Sarah J. Maas as a writer and this book absolutely solidified that for me. While ACOTAR at least had some redeeming qualities (snatches of a plot, a mystery, some interesting characters), this book had NOTHING.
I couldn’t follow the plot, I couldn’t differentiate the characters, I could barely understand the words she used in the order the contexts she attempted to place them. The amount of times I had to flip back and reread things because I assumed I MUST have missed something when I in fact did not! And just not understanding the mise en scène of a single scene, never understanding where anyone is placed in relation to one another, not being able to follow the fight scenes just made the reading experience all that more unbearable.
I wasn’t a supposed to DNF any of the books from that video, but I begged my friend and she gave me a pass. Thank god.

2. Mask of Mirrors by M.A. Carrick ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.75/🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This is multi-perspective fantasy done excellently. I loved all of the characters (even the ones we were supposed to hate), the writing was beautifully lyrical and the plot kept me sucked in throughout the whole book.
There’s a lot of moral greyness in this world but moral greyness that feels actually grounded, thought provoking, and not like it’s going to be retconned away by the next book.
So excited to read the other 2 books in this trilogy, so excited that I had a nearly 5 star read this year (finally)!

What are you reading?

🎥NEW VIDEO IS LIVE!!

I forced myself to finally finish A Court of Silver Flames after a YEAR of trying to get through it and wow..... what an experience. I had to split this video up into 2 parts bc of various inconveniences (fully blaming mercury retrograde for this one) but part 2 should be out for your viewing pleasure very soon.

Please note! With this video I am launching a GoFundMe to help me pay for grad school, but I will make a separate community post all about that. The link is here though for those who can donate: gofund.me/41a60c79
