I remember looking around at my local record store in Princeton, NJ, for some new music to check out when I stumbled across a CD called "The Days of Wine and Roses" by Vincent Herring. I had heard of his name when I was in high school but didn't really know of him, but after hearing the first track of this CD, Vincent Herring's music eventually filled up 99% of my listening diet. I began transcribing a bunch of his solos to try to imitate his incredible lines and expressiveness on the horn.
About a year later, I was shocked to receive an email from Vincent explaining that he had seen some of the transcriptions of his solos I had uploaded on YouTube and asked if I was interested in helping him write a method book of his improvisational concepts. I immediately jumped at the opportunity and, since then, have learned so much from someone whom I am grateful to now call a close friend.
After three and a half years of working with Vincent to develop this book to its full potential, I truly believe the concepts explained in this method book will help countless students along their journey of learning jazz improvisation. I am honored to have worked with my hero on this project and genuinely believe any musician who uses this book will reap enormous benefits!
