Y’all!!! I just can’t even... like, okay. Wow! I know I’ve been gone from YouTube for a minute, but here’s why.
So last August, I attended ClickCon in Chicago for the first time. It’s a three-day photography conference and I went as a model. I paid my own way to fly there and was blessed and thankful to stay with Anjana for a night and Meg and Trevor (and his little brother) for two nights while there to save money. Couch surfing ain’t that bad honestly.
The first day of the conference is a model education where we meet industry folks from model agents, posing coaches, legal experts and so on. After the model walk class, I get tapped by Joey Joelle of SCE Agency to speak with her after the class. We talk for a moment and she looks over my portfolio. She likes a few shots, tells me to throw some out, and sees there’s potential here, but not at the level she’s looking for. So with her feedback, and the posing class with Josie Fox later, I take all those critiques and immediately start working harder to get better shots for the conference (which you may have seen over the last few months) and even later when I get back to Wichita.
Fast forward to me working with KC-based photographer, Andrew Dang, at the November ICT Creative Meetup at the Artbomb Gallery and we take a few photos outside the store front because he likes the lighting. And this is one of the shots he gets! I was elated!
Then in December, I’m working on a shoot for Derek’s new location of his business Urban Routine and I get a call that night from a number in Chicago, it was SCE. They saw this photo Andrew took and said they’d been following my IG and noticed the work I’d been doing and liked what they saw. Joey then said, we’d like to have you join our agency...
...so a few weeks later, after submitting photos for their website and my portfolio, and getting all my stats together (btw, I’m a 40-30-38, that’s CrossFit for ya 🤣, thanks Coach John) I can officially say that as of January 7, 2020, I am a signed model with SCE Agency in Chicago!!!!!
Thank you Andrew Dang for this photo that got me recognized!
Thank you Sherry Hagerman for creating a conference that made this opportunity possible for models!
Thank you @jackieaina and @AlissaAshley for their makeup videos where I learned to finesse and refine my grooming for photography.
Thank you Aaron Richard for that photo in the hallway! It’s also in the portfolio!
Thank you Shelby Laine for the photo from the October Mulvane Meetup, it’s also in the portfolio!
Let’s see where 2020 takes me from here! (Btw, I’m not moving to Chicago, yet. I’ll let you know though. 😉)

Have you checked out my new video!? I'm just checking in with how life has been like after cutting my dreadlocks. Some days I loving this short hair, and then there'll be those moments I see folks with long hair and think, damn, why did I cut off my locs!? Maybe I'll grow my hair out? Who knows?...

Hey everyone! Here's a little reminder to keep your melanin popping this winter, okay!? You don't have to make your own body scrub, but exfoliation is great for the skin! It helps your body absorb the moisture from whatever you use to hydrate. My recommendation is to follow this up with a shea or mango butter or body oil. I use my DIY shea body butter. What do you use!? Let me know! #keepitlocd

I was a regular guy in love with his dreadlocks! I was loc'd since July 11, 2013 and ended my #locjourney January 1, 2019; exactly 2,000 days later. I created videos on dreadlock style tutorials, hair and skin grooming tips, step-by-step guides on cutting hair your self, and topical videos about dreadlock culture from myths to the growth journey.
With my hair in a loose-natural state, the next chapter of my YouTube channel has yet to be decided definitively (but still in the vein of wellness, introspection and positivity). I will continue to post videos as time allows and my heart is up to it! Subscribe!!!
