Born in Brooklyn, New York, Frias was raised between two worlds, the urban landscape of NYC & the island his parents called home, the Dominican Republic. Frias grew up listening to artists like Kanye West & Lauryn Hill, but at home & in his mother’s beauty salon, he grew to love artists like Anthony Santos & Juan Luis Guerra. With his music, Frias bridges the gap between the two locales that shaped him, NYC and Santo Domingo. He sees the future of Bachata in people like him, children of the Dominican diaspora, who feel at home somewhere between the rhythms of the city and the high-pitched serenade of the requinto.
His first project, Eden, peaked on the iTunes Latin Album charts at No. 5 globally, in front of Bad Bunny and right behind Rauw Alejandro, demonstrating a hunger for a new type of Bachata. Music that is rooted in the culture but not afraid to evolve sonically.
A new generation is rising, and Frias is here to remind everyone that Bachata isn’t dying, it’s evolving.
