While getting my masters degree I worked in a machine shop that had formerly been a kite factory. There were hundreds of feet of carbon fiber tubes gathering dust on shelves in the back that my boss let me have.
The father of the guy I was working for was a huge aviation nerd and he had the plans for a “Legal Eagle” that he gifted me. My boss also let me build all the subassembly’s for the aircraft in the shop.
It took me a little over two years to build, and was the funnest toy I ever got to play with. I still kick myself for selling it.
