Hi friends,
I have a few speaking engagements over the next year and I need some pictures to represent scenarios I don't typically deal with. If you want to do me a favor, I'm looking for decent images of:
Bubble nesting (done)
Mouth Brooding
Substrate spawning (done)
Densely planted tanks where you have had fry survive in a colony setting (done)
Albino corydoras
Kuhli Loaches
I think this is more fun than raking google. If you have something you would like to submit, send to makemorefish@gmail.com along with any name or identifier you would like used for image credit.
Thanks!
P.S. here's a developing Danio Choprae Embryo I photographed this week using a digital microscope. Can't wait to see more species in this level of detail.

I'll be joining The Fish Room in New Zealand for a chat today, 9/12 at 1 PM PST if you want to watch me attempt to speak English words without writing them down first. What I would love for you to do is check out the backlog of interviews on this channel. They have had some incredible experts that most of us never get the chance to hear speak in person. I know you are a group of people looking for quality information. These long-form conversations are where you get it.

Anyone else suddenly stressed out by the Corydoras reclassification? I keep telling myself it will be ok. It will be like tetras. There are so many distinct genera in the group that we would call "tetra" and outside of very involved conversations, we don't say Hyphessobrycon or Nematobrycon, we just say tetra. And I think that's why it works. Let the taxonomists do their thing but at the end of the day, we just need to get through a conversation or transaction with mutual understanding. I figure we'll get there some day with the Corydoras but I'm already seeing retail listings updated to reflect the new classifications. RIP search engine optimization, it's an Osteogaster now. Things are gonna get weird for a while. I'm grumpy because I don't like change.
On a brighter note, my "Hoplisoma" Loxozonus spawned for the first time this last week. I'm an F1 dad now.

A few new parts are now available:
On request, a fry tray variant to fit the Aqueon 2.5-gallon tank. It doesn't need rails which is cool, but it's a small tray and a small tank water volume so be careful. I can't say I wouldn't do it, but this is kind of like raising fry on expert mode. To the band of psychopaths that have asked for this, best of luck.
To prevent airline tubing from colliding with the tank glass, I made a few variations of the uplift tube that, along with a general overhaul to the upper half, are oriented left, right, or straight forward when viewing the tray from the side. If it were me using this tray, I would use the "left facing" tube for easy access and maintenance.
I also reworked the 5-gallon tank rails for the 7W trays and made a version to fit the 6.5W. The 6.5Wx10L seems to make the most of a 5-gallon's footprint so I think I'll be using this myself.
All parts are up on the Patreon in a June file package and I've added both 5-gallon rails to the Etsy page for those who want to pick them up along with a regular kit. I tried to set up the shipping so that they can be bought alone with a shipping or to have free shipping when ordered along with anything else. Let me know if it doesn't work out that way.

I thought to myself the other day, it might be fun to map out the country as I ship fry trays to each new state. Here's where I'm at so far. The winners by volume (and a large margin) have been California and Michigan. Hawaii was quick, but is there a fish hobby in Alaska? I wonder how long that one will take.
The first rounds of orders have been pretty smooth, so I went ahead and set up additional printers to help scale production. The only negative I can report so far is that Etsy is really spotty with new item and restock notifications. I did some testing and I don't really love how it works. If you're wanting to place an order and want a more reliable notification, you're welcome to email me at makemorefish@gmail.com. Let me know what quantity and size (7x8.6 or 6.5x10) you're interested in and I'll handle that manually. At the moment I have 22 units ready.

Hi friends,
Fry tray kits are now available in the US and Australia. In the US they will be made and sold by yours truly via Etsy.
I'm producing two different sizes:
7W x 8.6L - This is the standard size that you have seen in videos
6.5W x 10L - This is a new size variation that is more optimized to be used in a set of four on a 20 long. The standard size will work too, but doesn't leave much room on the ends.
Etsy suppresses listings as soon as they sell out so if you don't see anything on the shop, that means they are out of stock. You can follow the shop to receive a notification when more items are listed.
Here's a link to the shop:

For Australia, visit Hand Picked Aquatics. These will be produced by Elyza who you may have seen in a recent fish room tour with Keeping Fish Simple. I am compensated by the unit for these sales so kindly bury her in orders. Link:

If this doesn't end in disaster, I'll make some more. See you soon!
@AquariumCoop, challenge accepted.

I'm sitting at my computer watching a pair of my Boesemani rainbows spawn through a camera feed and just saw something incredible. Look at all of those eggs in the water column just above the java moss. This still image shows maybe 30-50% of the eggs from a single "eggsplosion." This is where the massive spawn size comes from. I got a perfect shot of it and can't wait to show you on video.

After a couple of months of testing, I think the "frustration free" Ziss hatchery stand is ready to venture out in the world. 3D print files are available now on the Patreon: www.patreon.com/lowellsfishlab
I have included four height variants between 7 and 10 inches (original was 8in), along with a second set with a greater angle on the feet for printers that might struggle with the overhang.
This model prints upside down as shown in the attached image. This was the best orientation I could find to print this as a single part. I know the overhang seems like an aggressive angle, but it has been no trouble on an Ender 3.
Enjoy!

Added some variants to the Main Body tonight. It is now available in total lengths of 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 inches. Happy printing :)

Major improvements have been happening to the 3D printed breeding box/fry tray.
For the last month or so I've been communicating with a very experienced breeder to make some further improvements to the design. It's hard to quantify exactly how much better this has become as a result, but it's significant. I'm very excited to share more about the improvements.
Right now I'm preparing to publish a video that will act as a support guide for those who will want to print their own. This will coincide with availability* of the print files to the general public. To that point, I wanted to communicate a heads up with regard to file distribution. I had a conversation recently where I was encouraged to find some way to recoup some of the development cost of this thing (it has been rather expensive). On further reflection, I've concluded that I probably should. And that is what I will do. To facilitate that, the print files for this new version will be available for direct download but gated behind a Patreon membership. I did some testing and found the platform to be easy to get in, get what you want, and get out. I may experiment with other methods but this should be a good starting place.
For anyone interested, here is a link to the patreon: www.patreon.com/lowellsfishlab
See you for the video. Should be rolling out soon here.

Now officially capitalist swine.
Print files for my 3D printed fry tray / breeding box are available for personal, non-commercial use through Patreon. See the video linked below for more info on printing, set up and use of the trays.
I have begun to produce and sell a number of complete fry tray kits through Etsy (link below, US Shipping only). I have also authorized handpickedaquatics.com/ to produce and sell the trays in Australia.
I currently do not ship live fish.
