Join me on Kuumba (Fridayday) January 10 at 9PM Eastern time at the Mbongi for an open forum discussion as we debate whether "spirit" or "the soul" exist? Are these real phenomena? Or did the ancestors make these things up to keep the community in line with fear of a bad afterlife? Come join the conversation and weigh in on the subject. Join me on Kuumba (Friday) January 17 at 8PM Eastern time at the Mbongi as we discuss my latest lecture "The DJ as a Pharmacist," which is the second in our Hip Hop as a Kimoyo tradition lecture series. Here I reconceptualize the nature and the role of the DJ within the Jashe tradition in a way that empowers the DJ and gives him/her purpose and value in a manner not seen before. I look forward to your feedback and let me know what you think. So please bookmark your calendars, like, and share this link with friends and colleagues.

Reviewing this commentary from Daddy-O of the legendary Stetsasonic group, I am in general agreement with his stance. Now, keep in mind that New York is the epicenter of pseudo cults and information. But it cannot be denied that there is a spirit of wanting to 'know' and knowledge seeking in that location, that isn't as potent in other places, that expressed itself in the music. This is generally not the case in other parts of the U.S., which informs us of how when the spirit of Hip Hop moved to these other locations, that the consciousness did not generally follow. This is not to say that there is not a consciousness in other places outside of New York (in particular) and the East Coast (in general). However, it is not at the scale and as diversified as we see in the North East. Which is ironic because when you trace the majority of the major figures in the African consciousness movement who became known in New York, for example, they were from the south (e.g., Dr. Amos Wilson, Dr. John H. Clarke, Dr. Molefi K. Asante, Dr. Chancellor Williams, Dr. Khalid Muhammad, Dr. Asa Hilliard, etc.). This may parallel, ultimately, with the Harlem Renaissance and New Negro movements; the vast majority of the people coming from the south, but was able to find greater intellectual and creative freedom up-north. Worthy of exploration . . .

Join me on Imani (Saturday) May 18th at 12:30PM Eastern time at the Mbongi as we will go over where you can find the "land" glyph in the word Km.t "Egypt" so that we may end the debate that Km.t doesn't have a land determinative. So please bookmark your calendars, like, and share this link with friends and colleagues. Note, this is an open-forum. So the link will be given to join the discussion during the live.

Join me on Imani (Saturday) March 23 at 12PM Eastern time at the Mbongi as we will answer the question: Is Sumerian a Bantu language? On Sunday March 17, 2024 I was scheduled to engage in a debate on the question mentioned with an individual who, at last minute, backed out of the debate (for reasons unknown to me). Many people were eager to hear both perspectives on the matter and were disappointed in the outcome. I have decided to give my presentation anyway to inform the public of my perspective on the research question in hopes for a more enriching dialogue with experts in historical linguistics, and the lay public, in the near future. Estimated length of discussion: 1 hour, 30 minutes. So please bookmark your calendars, like, and share this link with friends and colleagues.
