Unearthing a Forgotten Sikh-Era Treasure in Kahna
âWhen you want something, the whole universe conspires in order for you to achieve it.â â The Alchemist
With that belief, my friend Wasif and I set off on a motorbike to search for a lost Sikh-era building in Kahna, Lahore. We had no confirmation it still existed â just hope and determination.
Our journey took us through several villages. We met locals, enjoyed rural life, and followed every clue until someone directed us to a place called âGumti.â
What we found wasnât what we were looking for â it was something even better!
About 2.5 kilometers from Stop No. 5 on Ferozepur Road (31°21'27.9"N 74°23'34.7"E), hidden in bushes, stood a 150-year-old Sikh Samadhi known locally as âGyan Chand Ki Gumti.â Built with Nanak Shahi bricks, itâs a six-sided structure topped with a dome, once crowned by a now-missing spire.
Inside are small lamp niches, a sun motif (Shamsa), and light floral carvings. Sadly, the site is neglected. A man, possibly a drug addict, was sleeping inside. Without action, this heritage site may vanish.
Iâve explored history by many means â but nothing matches the joy of finding it on a bike.

Honored to Visit the Pakistan High Commission in Malaysia đľđ°đ˛đž
During my tour with Fabulous Travel and Tours, we had the honor of being invited for tea at the Pakistan High Commissionâa highlight of our trip.
We were warmly received by Madam Sughra Habib and her team, who gave us a brief meeting and a tour of the nearly 100-year-old heritage building. Surrounded by modern skyscrapers, the Embassy stood out with its historic charmâsaid to have been in use during WW-II.
We enjoyed tea and local cakes, feeling right at home. Wearing Shalwar Kameez at the Embassy in a foreign land brought a profound sense of belonging.
The Embassy plays a vital role in supporting Pakistanis in Malaysia and promoting Pakistanâs image abroadâthis visit was a beautiful reminder of our deep-rooted cultural ties.

đ˛đž My 15-Day Malaysia Tour: Culture, Food & Travel on a Budget
I recently completed an incredible 15-day tour of Malaysia, sponsored by Fablous Travel and Tour. During this trip, I visited Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, and Genting Highlandsâeach city offering its own unique experience.
From cityscapes to nature, every stop had something special. I enjoyed delicious Malay, Chinese, and South Indian food, and was amazed by Malaysiaâs cultural richness, vibrant weddings, diverse shopping, strong law and order, and impressive infrastructure. The weather kept things exciting with its unexpected changes.
A major highlight was attending the MATTA Fair, a global travel event where I met people from different countries and backgrounds.
Throughout the journey, I explored heritage sites, natural wonders, amusement parks, lush greenery, beautiful water spots, and both the day and night life scenes. I also had the chance to meet many kind and welcoming locals.
đĽ Coming Soon: Iâm launching a special content series where Iâll share heritage sites, helpful travel tips, meet & greet, and how you too can explore Malaysia on a budget like I did.

Satghara: A Hidden Gem of History in Okara
Satghara, a village in Okara, Punjab, holds a treasure trove of history. Believed to date back to the Kushan dynasty, its name might come from either the seven pitchers or homes or from soldiers of Alexander the Great.
The village, once fortified by Mir Chakar Azam Rind, still displays six bastions, two entrance gates, and old houses, with Bisher Dasâs residence being one of the most beautiful. The tomb of Mir Chakar Azam Rind is a key landmark, alongside old temples that highlight the once-thriving Hindu community. The fortification walls and historical mounds further enrich its story.
Thanks to the Walled City of Lahore Authority, this remarkable village is undergoing restoration. My visits to Satghara were made even more memorable by the hospitality of Hussain Bhai and Syed Ali Gilani and their family's deep connection to the area.

Sandhawalia Gurdwara â A Blend of History and Architectural Wonder!
Nestled 14 km from Jalo Mor, Lahore, the Gurdwara of Sandhawalia village whispers tales of a bygone era (31.56149, 74.57977). Built by Ajit Singh Sandhawalia during the time of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, its story took a dark turn when Ajit Singh assassinated Maharaja Sher Singh, a betrayal that left a lasting mark on Sikh history.
This Gurdwara is a rare gemâhexagonal in shape with 5 floors! Three stand above ground, one lies below (recently excavated), and itâs topped with a striking dome. The lower room features a single entrance, the second has two arched doorways, and the top "Guru Astan" opens to four sides. Intricate patterns, paintings, shamsa, arches, and floral motifs make it truly unique.
Beyond the Gurdwara, Sandhawalia offers moreâlocals proudly showed us a broken Baradari and a nearby "Talab" (pond), echoes of its rich past near the border. Thanks to Dr. Hameed for his expert insights as always and Ali Usman Baig, whose article first drew me to this hidden wonder. A heartfelt thank you to the villagers for their incredible hospitality! Their warmth and pride in sharing their heritage made this visit unforgettable.

Not a Kos Minar: The Hidden Truth Behind a GT Road Monument
Have you ever seen an old monument and assumed its story, only to find out itâs something entirely different? Thatâs exactly what happened when I explored a small brick structure along Lahoreâs GT Road. At first, it seemed like a classic Kos Minar from the Mughal era. But after consulting senior historians and heritage experts, I reached a different conclusion: this is not a Kos Minar!
First, the structure clearly dates to the British colonial period, long after the tradition of building Kos Minars had ended. Second, Kos Minars were built at regular distances along a route. But here, another similar structure is found nearby, which breaks that pattern.
Another major clue is the remains of a plaque once fixed on the frontâtypical of British memorials, not Mughal-era markers. These plaques often commemorated events or individuals. Across India and Pakistan, similar British-era brick monuments still exist with matching designs.
One pillar is badly damaged, while the other is partly trapped inside a large tree, with broken pieces lying nearby. The scene is both strange and sad. The state of this monument is alarming. Time, neglect, and nature have taken their toll. If not restored soon, this piece of history may be lost forever. Authorities must take immediate action to preserve it.

Unveiling Sarai Chanba: A Mughal Marvel Fading Into Oblivion
I once joined Dr. Hameed Sahibâs team on a study tour along Multan Road, where Sarai Chanba, a hidden Mughal-era gem 40 km from Lahore (31.24696, 73.98744), stole my heart. Built during Akbarâs reign, this 16th-century fortified rest stop near Nishat Chunian Textile Mill boasts massive walls, grand gateways, rooms, Akbari arches, domes, and remaining bastions. Sadly, this square-shaped marvel (see Google Maps) is crumblingâlocals have repurposed its domes and bricks, unaware of its heritage. Despite their kindness in guiding us, itâs heartbreaking to see it fade without preservation efforts. I wanted to take bricks home to save a piece of history. Sarai Chanba deserves betterâletâs raise awareness by sharing!

Dilip Kumarâs House, Qissa Khawani Bazaar, Peshawar
Nestled in Mohalla Khudadad, Qissa Khawani Bazaar, Peshawar, lies the ancestral home of legendary actor Dilip Kumar (born Mohammad Yusuf Khan, December 11, 1922). Declared a protected monument in 2014, the house now stands neglected, encroached upon by markets, and in urgent need of restoration.
On my visit to Peshawar, I navigated the old cityâs narrow streets to find this historic site. Though deeply connected to Peshawar, Dilip Kumar could never return home due to overwhelming crowds of fans. He cherished his roots, speaking Pashto and Hindko, and was moved when a fan shared its photos with him on Twitter.
Honoring his legacy, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government placed a tribute banner at the site, which still stands today.
