Ever wonder how much the neck/fretboard wood contributes to the sound of your bass? I have two nearly identical basses, one with a Maple neck/fretboard and another with Wenge. Comparison video coming soon!

It’s the last few days to save on my bass amp plugin, QuadBass! I spent the better part of 2023 working on a plugin that could sit perfectly in a modern metal mix, or could be tweaked to emulate a variety of tones for other genres. Check out any of my covers since September if you want to hear it in action!

My bass amp plugin is finally here! QuadBass takes what used to be a complex signal chain and condenses my approach down to 1 plug-in.

When I started making this, I wanted something that would work well cutting through a dense Arch Echo mix, but I also wanted it to be versatile. I wanted it to be something that I could use on any Rush cover for example. When I first started playing with the beta, I was astonished with how close I could get to the Moving Pictures/Camera Eye bass tone, a tone that previously, outside of cranking my sansamp, I was unable to reproduce otherwise.

I’m super happy with how this plugin came out. I think it’s simple, easy to use, and fun! There are so many tonal variations you can get by playing with these knobs, and it’s been hard for me to make this plugin sound bad!

My latest video goes through all the features and some factory presets included with this plugin. Additionally, you can try the free demo by heading to my website:

I recently recorded a cover of Coheed and Cambria's "Time Consumer" as a Patreon request, only to find out that YouTube would block it to over half of my audience due to licensing issues. So, it now lives as an exclusive track on my Patreon page! If you're interested in hearing a bonus cover this week, listening to isolated bass tracks, requesting future covers or quick tabs, go ahead and check out my Patreon page!

Hey everyone! I know it’s been a while, this is the first time in the last year I’ve fallen behind on videos. My February was pretty crazy, a lot of it was spent tracking the upcoming third album from Arch Echo! Also I got married earlier this month! Kristin and I eloped in the redwoods and had a wonderful time exploring the western half of the US. I’m back home now and will be filming a new batch of covers very soon!

In other news, I have a room for 2 more students for the month of April. Get in touch if you're looking to improve! www.joecalderonemusic.com/lessons

Areas of study:
Bass Technique
Bass Line Composition
Music Theory
Music Production
Composing for TV and Games

Hey Everyone! I finally got around to filming a cover of Rush's 'Losing It', which I was really excited about, but for some reason the YouTube bots copyright claimed it (which they normally do) but also blocked it in North America (which the normally DON'T do). So for now I have this bass cover hosted on my Patreon page! www.patreon.com/posts/rush-losing-it-75588562?utm_…

I am a small YouTuber and do not have monetization on my account (if you see ads on my videos, the revenue is either going to YouTube or the copyright holders, not to me). I do these bass covers and reviews/tutorials mostly for fun! I like playing bass and I enjoy sharing my knowledge, especially when it comes to topics or techniques that I really wish I could've learned sooner. That being said, becoming a member of my Patreon is a great way to support me and what I'm doing! I am currently uploading isolated bass tracks for all my recent covers, so you can learn the songs easier or just better hear what's actually going on down there. Please feel free to check my page out! I'll be brainstorming some cool content to add for 2023, but if you have any ideas I'd love to hear those below as well!
