Well, I spun up three more build machines, for a total of eight buildds. The nice thing about building giant projects is that compilation is an inheritability distributable problem. YouTube seems to have decided that my stream no longer qualifies as live, since my name is no longer in a red circle, but you can still watch it here: youtube.com/live/E4wtw7BZoF0
I also have a status log here, marking the things that are going on on the wiki: wiki.restless.systems/wiki/DebianRebuildStatus

Debian is currently in the process of recompiling live on stream, but I've quickly realized I'm going to need A LOT more build power if I want to see this done before Spring of next year. I've marked the buildds to stop after this build, and then I'm going to throw 3 more machines online, and I suspect I'll be recruiting community members before long to speed this up.

So, I've got the full autobuilder setup for the Debian rebuild, and I've got GCC building on both buildds as a burnin test right now, so I think I'm going to be ready to lite the fuse for the rebuild sometime next week. I think I can stream it live, but making it visually interesting might be a bit tricky; I need to figure out how to get statistics out of Wanna-Buidl.
Meanwhile, I started the actual script part, and I have a feeling this is going to be an hour long video ...

Well, current progress after dealing with dak's entirely silent failure modes, I was able to upload the test "hello" source and binary packges and get them processed into the queues. That's the easy part cause I still need to get all the source packages imported ...

Well, I started work on the Debian archive rebuild stuff, and I'm staring at code I wrote back when I was a teenager. Yes, I wrote some small parts of the Debian backend infrastructure, you can check for yourself: salsa.debian.org/ftp-team/dak/-/blob/master/dak/up…

So as of today until October 14th, the International Space Station is sending SSTV images from orbit. First time I've ever decoded SSTV to boot. The image is apparently a part of a set, and I managed to decode the 7th out of 12th. I'm out of town from Thursday for a few weeks, so I think I'm going to rig a Raspberry Pi with an SDR plugged into the dipole to collect the set.

Well, I *wanted* to stream tonight, but right now, I don't think I have the Internet for it. :/

I'm NCommander, also known as FOSSFirefighter in various parts of the Internet. I have a passion for retrotech, digital preservation, and studying the facts that help build the technological world we live in today.
In the past, I used to professionally develop the Ubuntu operating system, volunteered as an interior firefighter in Henrietta, NY, and traveled across the world living out of a backpack for years at a time. I don't know where this road is going to take me, but I enjoy making content on YouTube, and I'm always hoping to find that rare "grail in the garbage" moment whenever I start a new project.
Feel free to drop me a line on Discord or Mastodon if you've got an interesting tip, and as always, I'm wishing you all a great day.
