Having been a fan of the martial arts most of my life, I was naturally excited to finally take my first karate class in the summer of 1987 at the age of 15. My initial motivation for starting karate classes was a response to bullying during my first year of middle school. I didn’t like to fight, but I grew tired of worrying about the possibility of one. As I progressed through the ranks, I became less concerned with self-defense and more fascinated with the technique and science behind the movements, concerned more with the “whys” than the “how's”. The purpose of this channel is to capture a few things I've learned along the way, not only for my personal reference but as an aid to my students, friends and family. I don't claim to be perfect, but I hope the content will prove useful.
A special thanks to my good friend and mentor, Grandmaster Tony Martinez, Sr. for allowing me to use his studio for many of the video demonstrations you will see here.
