The Tom Lea Institute in El Paso, Texas, a 501 (c)3 organization founded to perpetuate the legacy of a great American artist and writer. Tom Lea (1907-2001) was a genius of the twentieth century with extraordinary gifts as a muralist, illustrator, war correspondent, portraitist, landscapist, novelist and historian. Under the direction of Adair Margo, former Chairman of the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities during the two-term Presidency of George W. Bush, the Institute was formalized in 2009. Its history, however, dates back to a life-long friendship between the artist and Adair Margo who exhibited much of Lea's work in her El Paso gallery.
