Along with the album release, I'm excited to present the music video for one of its standout tracks, 'Nature,' directed by Tilly Shiner, who also worked on the video for "Loved Ones." You can watch the full version here:Â hauschka.lnk.to/Nature_VideoYDTilly explains the story behind the video: "âHenry Dances Under a Bridgeâ is a short portrait film that morphed into a music video. I cycled past him, dancing solo on a quiet street in London. He played me a message using a voice app and briefly told me his story. It was blunt and moving, full of tragedy and hope. The next day he would fly back to Sydney, but every day when I cycled under the bridge, I would imagine him dancing there. Henry danced in spite of everything. It felt like the perfect fit for Hauschkaâs track âNature,â where the complex sounds are always shifting, sometimes haunting, sometimes shimmering. It is the beginning of a series of portraits in collaboration with Hauschka, to tell simple stories of ordinary people, and the small pleasures and dramas of their lives."

Today, I'm thrilled to share my latest album, 'Philanthropy,' with you. This project holds a special place in my heart. 'Philanthropy' is not just an album; it is also a reflection on the topic of empathy. It's a result of experimentation and improvisation, a response to recent years. As Hauschka, I've approached this project with a philosophical mindset, aiming to create music that's both approachable and compassionate. I can't wait for you to experience it. I hope that some of the ideas and the feelings that I had during composing come across and can be useful.Â
Thank you all for your support, and I hope you enjoy the new album.

Four years after his last release as Hauschka, composer Volker Bertelmann returns to City Slang for his new effort âPHILANTHROPYâ. While touching on the work of musical innovators, such as Erik Satie and John Cage, Hauschka reimagines the potential of the prepared piano for the 21st century, a technique that involves inserting objects between the instrumentâs strings or onto its hammers to expand its sonic and operative possibilities.
âPHILANTHROPYâ is as much about how it sounds as it is an opportunity to engage in discussion and exchanges of ideas. The word is defined as âthe practice of performing charitable or benevolent actionsâ. Perhaps too modest to consider his music a benevolent or charitable act, Bertelmann unquestionably displays âa love of humankindâ through the compassion and openness of his new music. Dominated by his ever-changing but distinctive sound, the Academy Award and BAFTA-winning composer is to release his 14th album âPHILANTHROPYâ on October 20th of this year.
