Preston Atkins (2005) is an American Bassoonist based in Salzburg where he is completing his bachelor’s degree at the Universität Mozarteum in the class of Marco Postinghel. Previously, he also studied at the Curtis Institute of Music and the Idyllwild Arts Academy with Daniel Matsukawa and Martin Kuuskmann. Among accolades, he has been invited to participate in the Muri (2023) and Aeolus (2024) Competitions. As an orchestral musician he has toured America, Asia, and Europe with leading conductors (Daniel Harding, Ion Marin, Antonio Pappano, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and Osmo Vänskä), as a member of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA), and the New York String Orchestra, among others. He was also a former member of the Académie du Festival d'Aix-en-Provence in 2023, and has appeared as a soloist with the Symphony Orchestras of La Crosse and Vancouver (USA).
