It's always strange to consider that Antigua & Barbuda 🇦🇬 only achieved independence in 1981... A reminder of how long Colonialism lasted. And rightly, when it comes to independence celebrations, we always engage the question - "HOW INDEPENDENT ARE WE REALLY?" plenty still fi do.

Still, I celebrate my family and my people on this day. I honour our connection to these twin Islands and the beauty of the land and the culture we have cultivated & developed.

I celebrate my grandmother who came to the UK and struggled for her family to thrive.

I evoke the name of King Takyi aka King Court, aka Prince Klass. May his spirit and the spirit of all those who planned that rebellion from 1728-1736 in order to establish true nationhood in the form of the "Kingdom of Antigua" - continue to inspire us all.

I stand with the people of Barbuda, in the fight to affirm the Land Act & protect Barbuda Land from "Disaster Capitalism". May we all join in fighting this fight.
