Other than his reputation for partying hard, I only knew Harry Nilsson through the songs "Everybody's Talkin'" and "Without You", both of which had been personal favourites for a long long time. One day I thought "Who is this guy? With that voice there can't just be two good songs". So I got a Greatest Hits and was baffled by how diverse it was. I couldn't figure it out. A cheerful song about a desk followed by a calypso song about a Coconut followed by an orchestral arrangement of a classic American song from the 1920s. It wasn't what I expected and that could have been the end of my exploration. Except that the last track "As Time Goes By" was so beautiful that I got the whole album "A Little Touch of Schmilsson In The Night" which I instantly fell in love with and played constantly. Then I saw the documentary "Who Is Harry Nilsson?" and with Harry's story being told chronologically the diversity that had baffled me suddenly made perfect sense and I realised Harry was a musical hero!
