Will Zarah be raw fed?!
The day after she came home, I took Zarah to the vet for a check up, stool sample and to chat with the vet about her. After some talking, we came to the conclusion that with her size and breed, she would benefit more (and thrive) off of high quality puppy kibble for at least the first year of her life.
While I'm used to raw feeding all of my pets, I want to do what's best for her health and what's recommended by our veterinary team.
Zarah's been started on some @openfarmpet puppy kibble and she LOVES it. This baby is SO food motivated ❤️
I can't wait to see her grow and thrive while exploring this new Open Farm journey 🌞

I guess I can answer sum Zarah questions 🤭
The first and biggest, is where did I get her?
While Zarah just came back from the vet and got told she even looks nicely bred, Zarah was not a planned litter from a breeder. Now I might get some more hate on/for this, but I really do not care 👋🏻 - While I do NOT support backyard breeding, I found someone getting rid of purebred German Shepherds and thought this could be my opportunity. I asked LOTS of questions; about the parents, temperaments, breeding history, age, health/behavior problems and more. If any of it seemed off, I wouldn't have gone for it, don't worry.
These pups came with their full set of first shots and dewormer. After days of talking with the owner of these pups and seeing the parents (that will be getting fixed after their one and only litter), I decided to take my shot. They weren't in it for the money, mostly wanted a GOOD home for these BEAUTIFUL purebred Shepherds.
At 9 weeks, Zarah is 17.2lbs! Her dad is 130lbs and mom is 90lbs. When we met the dad, he was very chill, super well behaved, no reactivity and BIG 🤩 they did a good job training him, I can't wait to see Zarah's potential. Now, that's another question.
Will she be doing any service work?
Getting Zarah into service work is NOT my intention nor priority. Ducky is thriving and what she's doing, and Lewis is getting up there! 😺 Again, this is NOT another service dog prospect. *IF* she has the right temperament and shows the will to work, then we can try and see. But once more - NOT A SERVICE PUPPY‼️🤦🏻

I understand some of you have been genuinely wondering about Lewis, my service kitty in training, and why. Here are my best answers, feel free to comment any other questions if I missed anything 😬
Why did I decide to train a CAT for service work?
While this wasn't my original plan, since the day I picked Lewis up, he showed true service animal potential. As a dog trainer, this wasn't exactly new to me, and I knew what traits and characteristics to look for. Lewis met all of them. On top of that, he became incredibly bonded to me, which has him eager to help me.
What does Lewis do exactly?
Since Lewis is very attached and in tune with me, he naturally taught himself migraine alerts. This is incredible, as it's something that can be hard to train. On top of his natural migraine alert, Lewis needed very minimal scent training for high heart rate alerts. He quickly caught on , and is consistent about it.
Besides his medical alerts, Lewis does at home medication reminders and is learning to retrieve meds. Why can't I teach Ducky this? I mean I COULD, but I don't want her jumping on the counter. Lewis has the work drive, why not use him?
So why do I need Ducky?
Ducky does a lot more "physical" tasks like item retrievals, getting a drink from the fridge, help remove clothing, DPT, crowd control and much more.
Here, is Ontario, cats CAN be trained service animals. I hope this helped answer some of this team's questions 🥰
