Spotify have changed their revenue distribution model which will ostensibly render the first 1000 streams unmonetised for small artists, and it's a bit unclear whether or not I'll keep making any money at all on their streaming service.

I'm not panicking, I make pennies from there anyways (about $120 AUD total in the last couple of years) and it doesn't cost me much to keep my music up there (about $30 AUD per year), but it does hurt my feelings towards them a bit. My music is niche, and I've still got a long way to go before it's truly really good, but it does cost me money to buy gear and Spotify have made it clear that they're not really interested in letting niche artists use their platform to grow anymore.

I'm going to leave my music up for at least another year nonetheless and we'll see what happens. But if I want to be able to afford to set up a proper studio with a nicer keyboard, proper monitors, sound-treatment, more suitable desk etc. etc., I'll have to look to grow elsewhere.

In not entirely unrelated news I'm considering re-opening my Patreon as I get back into more regular music release, so if I did, what sort of things would everyone expect to see there (what would you all like from me)?

Thanks for being the awesomest community ever, and for all of your support and understanding.

Should I refrain from using any more AI art in my music videos?

In 'Mollusc Merchant', I used Deforum for Stable Diffusion to generate a video of morphing brass instruments in a snowy forest. However, I've learned that some people view this as art theft, and I want the community's opinion.

Specifically, Stable Diffusion was trained using a random-ish collection of images from the internet, which included copyrighted materials. While it doesn't directly plagiarise these in the normal sense, it did learn to replicate aspects of these images by being encouraged to generate images which are difficult to tell apart from the training images.

I want to do the right thing, and thought feedback would help. I am using the generated images to create interesting art for alongside my music. I am not selling the art works.

Just a heads up, you can now get both versions of Dance of The Forest Lights played at the same time as a bonus track on the Microtonal Allsorts Bandcamp download. Playing two versions of a track at the same time is a decidedly terrible idea, but it's nonetheless there for your enjoyment or otherwise.
