Hey everyone, update on the 2024 SirenCon live stream. Unfortunately it's down for good. A mix of technology problems and bad weather are making it near impossible to do. Apologies to everyone who was looking forward to it. I hope y'all enjoyed it when it was working! Next year a dedicated team will handle the stream, so it will be a lot better. What can be salvaged of the live stream will be uploaded to the official SirenCon YouTube channel after the event. Thank you all for your patience!

Never in a million years I would've thought I'd own one of these suckers, but finally my dreams have become a reality! This unit was the last and most infamous one from Westmont, IL and was saved from scrap. I plan on wiring it up at some point, so maybe y'all will see a video of it on here soon. I'll post updates on my Instagram of it as I refurbish/restore it.

Alright folks, there's been a lot of misinformation being spread about regarding the fate of the Lombard 500, so I'm here to clear up all of that for y'all on behalf of all of us at Midwest Warning Systems.

Essentially, Drew, the owner and lead operations manager of MWS, contacted the nearby HOA early this year asking if we could remove it for them. The HOA ended up approving our request and we went forward with getting estimates from crane companies to safely lift it off the pole and onto the ground. Well, we ended up getting quotes from 5 different crane companies all WELL over $5,000 and this was due to the tricky area it was located in being so close to power lines and deep in a forest. With the idea of using a crane and other equipment now completely off the table, we began to brainstorm other ways of getting it down safely.

Flash forward 5 months and we get an urgent email from the HOA regarding the status of the removal, and as a result we had to immediately move forward with it's removal in the manner that we did. Ultimately we decided on cutting the pole at the base and with the use of a guide rope, guide it into an area of thick brush to try and cushion the fall impact as much as possible. Fortunately, the removal process went a best case scenario for us and the 500, other than having the projector be completely smashed, is intact and working.

Originally we wanted to surprise everyone with it at next year's SirenCon post refurbishment, so we kept quiet in the hopes people wouldn't get too riled up about it, however that definitely did not happen lol. So hopefully this clears up all the misinformation for y'all. We at MWS are very excited to be working with such a rare and unique piece of siren history and we can't wait to share it with you all someday. Hopefully if everything goes right, it will live to possibly serve another town, protecting all of its citizens from danger just as it did back in Lombard. Please feel free to ask me, Drew (‪@Midwest_Sirens‬), Holly (‪@TheSirenGeek‬), or Devin (‪@WasherBoy2016‬) questions regarding it. Until the next update, take care and rest easy knowing that it's in good hands!

Oh yea, it has a SH tag, however it is dual tone (9/12 port). Also, upon further inspection of the pole, there were multiple, long abandoned woodpecker nests inside of it and signs of a severe termite infestation. Factor in a decent lean and the fact that the pole was essentially completley hollowed out and it would have fallen over on its own in a few years had we not taken it down ourselves. Also, if it wasn't for it falling on the horn it likely would've received MUCH more damage than it does now, the horn ended up bracing the impact and protected parts of it that actually mattered, a new projector can easily be remade with sheet metal and such.
