Hey Folks Happy New Year! Hope it's a musical one.
I've been hard at work on a quiz for those that deeply want to learn/hear music BY EAR easier!
I played over 30 examples with curated chord progressions, and you can develop your ear by listening/pausing the video to practice hearing/feeling the harmonic drama. This is the work we need to do to get better, and really HEAR music in an intuitive, linguistic way.
See what level your ear is on and what you could deepen.
Pt. 2 to Follow!

Hey Folks, new lesson out tomorrow (skipped yesterday but getting lots of stuff ready for release soon).
I wanted to ask you, as I regularly do to my 40-50 weekly students I teach:
What are some your biggest hangups, frustrations, etc. with music? I know some problems are more specific but I try to teach lessons that benefit the most and broadest musician base.
If something else ails or perplexes you, let me know in the comments! I'll do my best to address it ASAP.

Just hit 1K subscribers, if you're reading this, I have you to thank!
Still bad at this but this mirrors every kind of journey, and probably the music journey you are on.
That journey can be so confusing. I still get regularly hung up and have had to practice finding forward motion.
I hope I can encourage you to keep on, with music or whatever you feel called to do, long enough to see that luxuries like music and art are only objective "products" on the very thinnest level.
The deeper you go, the more you realize music's about you:
-teaching you lessons about yourself that are useful in other parts of your life
-making learning a natural, permanent part of life
-finding a project that leads to self-actualization
-how you feel
-how you can express yourself
-sharing things that light you up
-how you can put impossible-to-articulate to sound and take part in the magic of music
Many more videos to come:
more Chord Families, more about music intuition, more about harmony, more tips on getting wise to the game.

I'm taking this weekend off, but back next Friday with a video for struggling and stagnant musicians, how to actually LOVE playing and practicing regularly, without self-judgment.
My blog post this week breaks these methods down, and what essential steps I've taken that have unlocked my ease of playing:

Good feel is what I try to demonstrate for all my students, and the main point I want to pass onto them- playing music should feel good, for you and for the music.

Tomorrow I'll be uploading a video (a day late, I'm still practicing myself) on common problems of finding a sustainable, enjoyable practice. Let me know of any common issues you deal with practicing!
I'll be discussing:
-How to stay inspired
-How to promote showing up every day for consistent practice
-How to benefit from practice
-How to get things accomplished while practicing
-How to learn in your down time and live in a spirit of learning

I’ve been practicing for an upcoming solo performance. Tonight, working on feeling out a larger improvised section of a tune, I fought the desire to start the section over, not buying what I was musically selling at that moment.
The conviction then hit me: great artists aren’t remotely afraid of a wrong note and welcome the unknown, knowing that they are authentically prepared for any outcome.
Performing music with this attitude is an exercise of self acceptance. How easily I forget this.

I’ll be sure and post a recording of the tunes I’m performing ASAP, warts and all!
