Chuck is still having some technical difficulties so for this week's #TheLeatherElement instead of doing a video on  ‪@WeaverLeatherSupply‬ we picked a question from one of our viewers and Chuck answered it for you!
Q: Nick from Conroe, Tx asked: Is it customary to line a belt?

A: It depends. Most of the higher end belts will have a liner, but, that’s either the mark of a quality belt or it’s because the maker is using thinner (cheaper) leather and it needs to be beefed up to feel like a good belt. With an 8/9 z. leather most any weight liner will really start to thicken the belt so I tend not to line for regular belts. For “Shooters” belts or harness/safety belts it’s no issue but regular use belts can start to get stiff with additional thickness. It is really up to you. One good point is laying in a liner on a belt we dye ourselves. Dye can rub-off/bleed, so, adding an undyed leather like a veg-tan can alleviate the rub-off, but, a liner needs to be sewn in and, for crafters, that weight of machine just may be out of the budget. Hand sewing a belt can be incredibly tedious…but it looks GOOD! - Chuck
