My fascination with the triple Axel began when I first watched I, Tonya (2017).
The triple Axel is a triple jump that consists of taking off in the air by a forward facing jump, spinning 3 and-a-half times mid-air and landing backwards on the opposite leg. Before Midori Ito, the triple Axel was a jump only performed by male skaters. In the eyes of many, the triple Axel is that it is one of the hardest jumps to ever attempt in figure skating. In 1988, Midori Ito was the first woman to complete the triple Axel in competition. Ever since her, women have been attempting the triple Axel, following in the footsteps of Midori Ito!
In this page I have a collection of many triple Axels of the very few women in the world who have since been able to perform it in competition.
Hopefully, we might be able to add onto this list in the near future. As the women in figure skating only continue to amaze the world by performing this intense jump that was previously only expected to be done by men!
