CHANNEL UPDATE SEPT 2023
hi! haven't posted on here for a bit, below im gonna talk about what to expect from the channel + where ive been and whatnot
ā”1) WHERE I'VE BEEN
- college! i started college and have been busy as a result, so its hard to sit down and work on videos. I'm hoping this will change when procreate drops their animation program in november so i can draw for videos on the go with my ipad...we'll see
- you can find me on Instagram & Tumblr as @burrferns, i still draw & am active there! (instagram is best for seeing my art, i talk more on my tumblr)
ā”2) WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE CHANNEL
- uploads will be [less frequent than previous years], and also you may see [longer videos like animation memes, AMVs, PMVs, animatics, etc] from me vs 6 second map parts
- i still enjoy making video projects and will continue to do so, but ive been more busy and interested in projects that are longer and would take more time. I may step away from doing MAProject parts a bit, but you'll probably see a few of those as well
ā”3) WILL I CONTINUE HOSTING MAPS IN THE FUTURE?
yes and no! i mentioned on my heart map call it would be the "last map of it's kind" i host and this as of now is true. I want to focus on running projects more akin to stronger magic [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pt7BD...] or darker side of me [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLDww...] that are either geared towards beginners, and/or short deadline projects with more fun/lighthearted gimmicks and concepts.
I noticed in recent years hosting maps that are more "serious" or appear to have higher expectations, even if I don't mean to be strict/demand a lot of people art wise, are harder to host bc everyone seems a bit stressed out...which to me is probably a side effect of my generation of maproject participants all getting older (we're all more busy), but also the developing culture and higher expectations of the community I've watched change over the past few years
I feel very passionately about MAProjects as amateur, collaborative works where people can just experiment with art/animation while enjoying the feeling of contributing to a bigger thing. I like when i watch projects and feel the charm of artists just having fun with a prompt that encourages them to experiment with their art without much worry about making a super professional looking thing. Hosting maps where everyone feels pressured to make parts that serve as like, resume/portfolio material and have the project serve as social connection building experience for everyone involved makes me really sad and I can feel the pressure hanging over the environment overall, so in the future I want to host projects geared towards encouraging people to get loose with art and just have fun building a project together.
I still really love every map i've hosted and tend to follow through on either rehosting or finishing maps of mine that may read as being more serious or formal(?) stake wise (heart, blinding lights, etc) regardless, but just now ik i want to try to go into hosting with a different mindset and prioritize things that i find more fulfilling/less stressful to host + what i feel people seem to have a lot of fun with
