The Evangelical Church of India (ECI) is a Christian denomination in India. It operates the Allahabad Bible Seminary in Allahabad, the Calcutta Bible Seminary in Kolkata and the Madras Theological Seminary and College in Chennai. It came into existence due to the activity of the Oriental Missionary Society. ECI has adopted Episcopalian form of Church order effective from 3-4, November 1992, The Most Rev. Dr. Ezra Sargunam who was widely called as Father Bishop was elected as the First Bishop of Evangelical Church of India, and was consecrated on February 13, 1993. The church has more than 100,000 members. Now the goal of ECI is to disciple 10 million souls among the responsive people groups and to plant 100 Thousand Local Churches by the year 2056 which will be the centenary year of ECI.
