Technical Tidbits for Medieval and Viking Spinners who want to use accurately designed historical spindle sticks, removable whorls and various types of distaves for spinning wool stored on a distaff. Distaves are not just for flax!!! The distaff instructions will also work for spinning modern preparations of wool tops/roving and drum carded batts on a distaff attached to a spinning wheel.
The use of the removable whorl is explored, along with distaff Design thru the Ages. As times permits, more Tidbits will be uploaded to explain the finer points of Medieval and Viking spinning and tools. The Author is particularly interested in comparing spindle/whorl design with spindle spinning techniques. The Author's goal is to help re-enactors, teachers, demonstrators and the just plain Curious to lend greater accuracy to their presentations and their research.
