Prepared and planned self-sufficiency
Sugar in the Attic comes from my relatives being ready for hard times ahead. During the cold war they stored sugar in my aunt's attic just in case there might be a shortage. The sugar was stored in 50 gallon galvanized trash cans. The floor was braced and the cans were placed in the attic. Many, many years later the cans were opened, the sugar was in perfect condition! It had been in the attic during the heat of the summer, about 150 degrees. This teaches us that we all should have "Sugar in the Attic" as a back up plan. We always joked about the sugar in the attic, now it is a great idea to have a little "Sugar in the Attic"!
