I understand that being an artist, we are brimming so many ideas, concepts, and projects that we want to work on. However, if we try to do them all at the same time, nothing will be finished.

Think of it as a camera. If you don’t focus on just one thing, everything gets blurry and hard to see. But if you focus on one thing, you can see the little details better.

Soooo I got sick this weekend due to the virus-that-must-not-be-named. But I managed to post a video for you! This time about some shading techniques for pens.

Fun fact: you can also use these techniques on other mediums too like paints.

You only need to follow 6 simple steps and you’d be able to design unlimited characters.

1️⃣ Figure out what you want their race, sexuality, age, height, and body build would be.

2️⃣ Look for references based on the information on step 1.

3️⃣ Draw the basic outline of the character.

4️⃣ Create a list of clothing and accessories and quirks you’d like the character to have.

5️⃣ Build a mood board by googling references of clothes and accessories.

6️⃣ Finish the drawing by putting a design twist on the references you’ve searched on step 5.

The most important skill you need to learn is breaking down objects into basic shapes.

Think about it, all the things around us are just a mesh of simple shapes. The thing is, our brain gets overwhelmed when we see something that looks very complex and it intimidates us. Hence, why we think we can’t draw them.

By breaking the objects into basic shapes and creating a construction before adding details, we simplify the objects in our minds, making it manageable to draw. 😄

Instead of spending your time doomscrolling, complaining, and arguing on social media, use that time and energy on actually drawing and creating more art.

You have more time than you think.

When I started posting tutorial videos last year, I was really only expecting I'll get a few hundred subscribers. Before, I was only uploading timelapsed videos and it doesn't get any views and my subscriber count was stuck at 17.

Honestly I didn't really think people will find it interesting. I just want to share the things I learned from working at an animation studio and studying art on my own in the hope that it will also help other artists to find their footing and level-up their illustrations just as I was able to.

My videos aren't perfect and it doesn't really cater to everyone but despite that, people came and watched and subscribed. As someone who has an anxiety disorder, seeing some growth on my channel is very encouraging

So allow me to say thank you. I'll do my best in continuing to share my knowledge and experiences in art.

It doesn't matter what medium or method you do, the important thing is you create the art that fulfills you.

Don't let others tell you you're doing it wrong.
