NEW SONG: SOCIAL LUBRICATION.Â
The title track of our album. Initially we werenât sure that Social Lubrication was going to make it on the album! It has been an idea, a solid chorus, a beat, a melody weâd been turning around for ages but never quite managing to finish. It wasnât until our final day in the studio and we were chatting about the themes and ideas weâd been working with for the album as a whole and it was as if Rakel was hit by a bolt of lightning! She went for a walk and when she came back she laid down the vocals in like 2 takes. It was so immediate and so encompassing of everything weâd been talking about throughout the whole album process it was instantly obvious to us that not only did the song have to go on the album it also had to be the title track.Â
Social Lubrication is questioning whose ease and comfort is prioritized when systems of oppression are glossed over in the name of comfort and ease.Â
The song is about being done with pouring grease on the mechanisms of oppression and instead a call to dismantle these machines in order to build better and more equitable societal structures for everyone.Â
Better to make love to the universe than get fucked by the system.

SURPRISE! Social Lubrication, our new sticky album is out 9th of June. Album artwork by slime-master Maisie Cousins. First single Hot (Donât date a musician) is out now w/ a twisted silly & hellah hot video straight from ours & Bethany Fitters boiling well above room temperature minds. Hot is a sardonic, cheeky poke in the ribs, laughing at ourselves, everyone that we've ever batted an eye to & vice versa & well to those whoâve ever had the hots for anyone whoâs held an instrument. We see you. We feel you.
We've poured so much sauce, blood, sweat, tears & err... other fluids into this album. Weâre so excited to fill your ears, brains & bodies with this collection of songs. We are really proud of them, thankful for Lucky Number & our team for encouraging us to make the best record we could make. After the Rain live in @studiosiloiceland Paves on piano. No drums. Weâve never played this song all in one room before. When recording the song back at the end of 2019 bass was recorded after we listened to back to the song & found that it was missing. When recording it Alice, Rakel & Paves were all in one room together so the album recording is also a one take. This song is personal. Real personal. The intamicy of playing it together in one space & closely following each other through out playing, there isnt any drumbeat to keep the tempo. So its just us, following the emotion of the song & where it goes. Listening to each otherâs flow. Itâs something special. Missing the rainstick tho⊠Full video link in stories/highlights. Dream Wife have always been adept at merging the political with the playful, and Social Lubrication is no different. Vital statements are hidden within hot and heavy dancefloor anthems about making out, having fun and staying curious. On silly, sexy stand-out âHotâ, the band wryly poke fun at musicians â including themselves. Ultimately, much of the album is about lust: sexual lust, lust for life, lust for letting loose, lust in the face of having to be a nice, polite âgood girl.â âA 'good girl' is not the same as a good person,â says Rakel. âThat's something I've had to shed a lot.â
