Conscious is not fundamental- A vast majority of people from the mystical traditions, and more recently, a small fraction of scientists, who have transcended physicalist views of world--have postulated that consciousness is fundamental. New theories are now emerging that space-time and matter may be generated by some manipulation of sequences consisting of plurality of conscious agents.
It is easy to tag consciousness as being the core of our experiences, from which all the other subsequent layers of phenomena--including matter, space, time--can arise. It brings strong sense of identity of who we are and our place in the universe. While new theories of consciousness may help in alleviating dogmatism of extreme physicalist views, there is really a perspective where one can remain independent to all these notions without being tied to either views. This is: directly observing the process of dependent arising and ceasing of all phenomena--as just a process. Consciousness is just a small part of this process. The world seems to be obsessed with theories. Do we really need a theory to see things as they really are?

“There are these three elements. What three? The form element, the formless element, and the element of cessation. These are the three.”
By fully understanding the form element
Without getting stuck in the formless,
They are released into cessation
And leave Death far behind them.
Having touched with his own body
The deathless element free from clinging,
Having realized the relinquishment of clinging
His taints all gone,
The Fully Enlightened One proclaims
The sorrow-less state that is void of stain.

Happy New Year 2024
Wish you all very pleasant and prosperous year a head. While it brings much needed happiness and joy, developing Metta or loving-kindness is also very powerful. There is inherent protection against ill fate to one who abides in Metta. Let us make this year a year to cultivate the Metta practice and radiate all being with such thoughts.
Importance of cultivating Metta (Loving-Kindness) Itivuttaka 1.27
For one who mindfully develops
Boundless loving-kindness
Seeing the destruction of clinging,
The fetters are worn away.
If with an uncorrupted mind
He pervades just one being
With loving kindly thoughts,
He makes some merit thereby.
But a noble one produces
An abundance of merit
By having a compassionate mind
Towards all living beings.
Those royal seers who conquered
The earth crowded with beings
Went about performing sacrifices:
The horse sacrifice, the man sacrifice,
The water rites, the soma sacrifice,
And that called "the Unobstructed."
But these do not share even a sixteenth part
Of a well cultivated mind of love,
Just as the entire starry host
Is dimmed by the moon's radiance.
One who does not kill
Nor cause others to kill,
Who does not conquer
Nor cause others to conquer,
Kindly towards all beings —
He has enmity for none.

“If, friends, one who enters and dwells amidst wholesome states would dwell in suffering in this very life, with vexation, despair, and fever, and if, with the breakup of the body, after death, he could expect a bad destination, then the Blessed One would not praise the acquisition of wholesome states. But because one who enters and dwells amidst wholesome states dwells happily in this very life, without vexation, despair, and fever, and because he can expect a good destination with the breakup of the body, after death, the Blessed One praises the acquisition of wholesome states.”
Samyutta Nikaya: 22.2 At Devadaha
If we live our lives full of greed, jealousy, envy, etc we are effectively shortening our lives and digging holes for bad rebirths. But if we replace these with generosity, appreciation, loving-kindness, we are prolonging our lives and preparing better places after this life. Things can not be simpler than this. There is no such thing called 'a meditation' that the Buddha taught; he taught how to develop these good qualities. That's it. The choice is ours. 🙏🙏🙏

To help earnest meditators directly see and understand deep subtle Dhamma and all stages of purification of mind to experience Nibbana--the unconditioned state--with Samatha Vipassana practice from Pali Suttas.
It answers the 'Why?' and 'How?' in your meditation.
“There is, meditators, that realm wherein there is neither earth, nor water, nor fire, nor air;
neither the realm of infinity of space,
nor that of infinity of consciousness, nor that of nothingness,
nor that of neither–perception–nor–non-perception,
wherein is neither this world, nor a world beyond, nor moon, nor sun.
There, meditators, I declare is no coming, no going, no stopping, no passing away and no arising.
It is not established, it continues not, it has no object.
This indeed is the end of suffering.”
