in the future - u will be able to do some more stuff here,,,!! like pat catgirl- i mean um yeah... for now u can only see others's posts :c
WOW, our home supermassive black hole! I really wanted to get a quick video about the Event Horizon Telescope's image of Sgr A* but I threw my back out yesterday morning. Bad timing. Anyway, there will be a video about this!

Been a little bit consumed with work (and let's face it, with the situation in Ukraine) so I'm running behind on my next video. However, @AstroAnimatorVFX just came out with a gorgeous animated tribute to James Webb that you've got to see to believe! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIauu...

Sure, I make videos about the James Webb Space Telescope, but @Explained Through Rap does it way cooler. Check it!

A bit after the fact, but JAMES WEBB IS FULLY DEPLOYED!!!!!! There's still a lot to do, but the most complex deployment ever attempted in space is DONE!!!!
3.1K - 167
🔴Port mirror wing is in place! The telescope just keeps getting more and more telescop-ey! We're going live tomorrow to celebrate the. final. deployment! https://youtu.be/Xv7QiNjx_MY
1.6K - 63
🔴Port mirror wing deployment has begun! The wing only needs about 5 minutes to rotate into position, but will need at least two hours to latch it into place. That's probably why the starboard wing doesn't open until tomorrow. But we're on the final approach to an unfolded telescope!
1.7K - 85
🔴ADIR Deployed! It may not be sexy, but it's critically important. Webb's Aft Deployable Instrument Radiator, or ADIR is now deployed! This is the black panel that sticks out from the back of the Integrated Instrument Science Module (ISM) and allows heat to flow away from the instruments. This means Webb's instruments won't be blinded by their own heat!
1.6K - 93
🔴WE HAVE A TELESCOPE! The sunshield was easily the most complex thus far, but without the secondary, there can be no telescope. The most critical deployment was the solar array, but this was the *very* close second.
1.9K - 111
I filmed a video yesterday to mark the deployment of Webb's sunshield, but then they went and decided to move up the deployment of their secondary mirror two days early! Watch it live now!

Welcome to Launch Pad Astronomy! I'm Christian Ready, your friendly neighborhood astronomer, and this channel is the place to geek out on the universe and understand how it works, all in plain english.
When I was 13 years old, I started working at the Sproul Observatory at Swarthmore College. I helped with observing, analysis, and monthly open houses. I was instantly hooked on sharing the universe with others. Other highlights include working on the Hubble Space Telescope and teaching astronomy at Towson University (I’m probably skipping a couple of decades here and there, but you get the idea).
I upload once per week, though my exact schedule varies with my teaching schedule every semester. But if you subscribe and hit the notification icon, you’ll always know when my latest videos are uploaded.
Otherwise, you can find us at www.launchpadworkshop.org/ and www.christianready.com/.
