Justin Lee Harris grew up in the head of a holler in the heart of Appalachia. Raised in a town of 900 people, Topmost, KY, he saw firsthand the realities of a small coal community forgotten by time. Harris’s eclectic style sets him apart from most artists from the region, but his upbringing certainly shaped his worldview.
Somewhat similarly to Johnny Cash before him, Justin identifies with the poor, downtrodden, and forgotten. His endless thinking and empathy lead to his championing social issues and lending support for those often forgotten. He sees himself more in the mold of the likes of John Lennon and Bob Dylan than anyone in today’s music scene. Justin doesn’t get on stage to be seen, but to be heard.
Harris doesn’t seek the spotlight. He doesn’t want attention. He is quiet and may seem standoffish, but he cares deeply about you and the world in which we live. All he needs is an opportunity to make an impact.
