Adventures in ultrarunning by a slow middle aged endurance runner. Not particularly a runner or athletic in my youth I took up running again as an adult when my kids started cross country running in middle school. I was in my early forties. Started with 5ks back in 2008 and slowly escalated into longer distances. In spite of a freak accident that left me temporarily in a wheelchair for a couple of months, leg and ankle surgery, I resumed running. In 2010, I started gradually adding miles to my races. From 5K to 8K to 10K to half marathons, marathons, and then found "ultras" starting with my first 50K. After more marathons and a few other 50ks I found timed running events. I ran my first 12 hour, then a couple 24 hours. With 56 miles as the most distance in a race, I embarked into my most recent adventure. I completely skipped my first 100K and completed my first 100 mile in 50 hours. I hope to inspire older runners, non-athletes, overweight, basically anyone seeking endurance running.
