I had to take Negi the Rough Green Snake to the vet a few months ago, and so I set up this portable enclosure for her. Understandably, she wasn't too thrilled about the experience, and spent most of her time hiding in this little skull cave. 🥺

For anyone wondering - she injured her jaw somehow (probably while chasing a bug), and the healing process has been slow, but she's doing fine. ❤️

On hindsight this probably would have made for a very interesting and educational video, but I just get so anxious when a pet is unwell, the last thing I'm thinking about is filming. I honestly don't know how other PetTubers do it. Not that I really consider myself a PetTuber. I don't know what this channel is to be honest. 😅

Some of my subscribers may be wondering why there have not been any recent videos of Kermit, my Lineolated Parakeet.

In May 2022, almost a year ago now, Kermit died suddenly from a freak accident. One of those accidents that you read about in lists of hazards to small birds in the home, and you think 'that will never happen to me', until it happens to you. The health and safety of that bird was my top priority. Unfortunately another member of my household was not as vigilant, and it happened too fast for me to prevent it.

Please know that he did not die alone - I held him and comforted him, and told him I loved him. I know that I should really make a video about this, but even after a year I still can't do it, it's still too painful. So this post will have to suffice for now.

After spending the Summer of 2022 grieving, I decided - after a great amount of internal debate - to adopt another bird. In September 2022 I brought home a little Rosey Bourke Parakeet, who I named Pixie. She's a sweet and mischievous little soul, who delights everyone she meets. Which brings me to my main motivation for making this post.

For the longest time I told myself that I just wouldn't post any more bird videos (aside from the quails), because I didn't want to have to explain what had happened to Kermit. However, I now feel that sharing videos of Pixie may be helpful to those who are thinking of getting a pet Bourke, or maybe hadn't heard of this species before. Bourkes are not commonly kept as 'companion' pets, however Pixie is constantly challenging all previously conceived notions about Bourkes!

So I will start with posting some clips of Pixie, and if people are interested, I will make a more in-depth video.

I will leave you with one of the last photos that I took of Kermit. He was my beautiful bean boy, and I still miss him every day.

Thank you so much to my 5000 subscribers!! I had been been planning on having a two-part 5k special video prepared for this milestone but it happened much faster than I was expecting. :O So I will get on that as soon as I can. in addition to that, there will be plenty of new content coming soon including new costume commissions, updates on my quails, and also some new additions to the Curious Creatures menagerie. xx

While I would preferred to switch the audio on the original video to something licence-free, apparently YouTube removes that option once the video reaches a certain amount of views, so I uploaded this new version, which has just hit 10k views! Thank you to all those people who watched this video instead of the original content-claimed version, it really means a lot. Xx

Apparently this video just hit 10k views! Thank you! I only wish that we could have kept this sweetie, but things didn't work out with my partner's allergies. We'd only had him for a short trial period, so it was no stress for Mez to go back to his pack, but I still miss him sometimes.
