π Exclusive Korea Tour: Helena as Your Guide?!
Hey everyone! π Helena from Alpha Korean Class here!
Recently, I had an amazing meetup with two cherished individuals connected to Alpha Korean Class right here in Korea, one of them being our very own writer, Chris! She roamed from Seoul to Busan and Incheon, having the time of her life. This made me think: How would you like if YOUR favorite Korean teacher (yes, that's me!) could be your guide in Korea while also teaching you some Korean? πΊοΈπ°π·
For a heads-up, Chris experienced so much in just one day in Seoul without the hassle of getting lost. Intrigued?
I'm based in Incheon, so whether you're landing or taking off, we could meet up. And if you're in Seoul and need a guide, I'm your person!

Hey everyone, Helena here! I'm currently in Mokpo, a city situated in the southern part of South Korea. I've been here for three nights now and I want to share some highlights from my trip thus far.
Day 1 - After a 5-hour drive, I arrived in Mokpo on a rainy day. Thankfully, my first stop, '38th Street Guesthouse', provided a cozy and comfortable haven where I could rest and recharge. As evening approached, I ventured to 'Indongjoo Village' to try a unique local delicacy only available here - 'Heuksan Island Fermented Skate'. It's considered one of the most challenging Korean foods to eat due to its potent ammonia smell and polarizing flavor. As a fermented skate novice, I have to admit, I wasn't quite ready to fully appreciate its unique taste, but as it's one of Mokpo's most famous dishes, I had to give it a shot. You might be wondering... How did it taste? Stay tuned for more! π
Day 2 - The rain showed no sign of stopping, and unfortunately, all the museums I'd planned to visit were closed. But hey, every cloud has a silver lining - in this case, it was food-shaped! I got to enjoy a 'Shrimp Baguette' from 'Korombang Bakery', one of the top five bakeries in the whole country and a staple in Mokpo. A shrimp-flavored baguette? I know it might sound bizarre but trust me, it's a secret you'll want to uncover. π
In the afternoon, I checked into a fascinating guesthouse named 'Changsungjang'. This is a place I'd been dying to visit for a very long time, mainly due to its unique history. It was once a luxurious restaurant during the Japanese colonial period and later a motel after Korea's liberation. In 2017, it underwent a striking transformation by the new owner. The vibrant orange, red, and turquoise colors blending seamlessly with the traditional Korean house design create an exceptionally exotic ambience. However, I have to admit, there was a slightly eerie feeling when the lights went out. Wonder why?
Day 3 - Finally, the rain ceased, and a bright, sunny day greeted us. It was so hot that it felt like summer had arrived overnight! I finally had the chance to tour the museums I'd postponed visiting and even got to meet a tour guide who shared some deeper insights into Mokpo's history. And then came the food - both lunch and dinner were beyond my expectations! For lunch, I visited 'Junghwa Roo' for their 'Jjajangmyeon' β a thinner noodle version typically eaten as a dessert course. I thought it would just be regular Jjajangmyeon with thinner noodles, but oh boy, was I in for a surprise!
For dinner, I had one of my favorite dishes, 'Steamed Monkfish', at a popular local restaurant inside the Dongbu Market called 'Daebak Hongdo Agujjim'. I'm not one to make a fuss while eating, but I found myself exclaiming 'this is so delicious' several times - yes, it was THAT good! If you're ever in Mokpo, I can't recommend this place enough.
I still have so many stories to share with you all. I'll keep updating you guys every now and then. And don't worry, I'm preparing a more detailed account in the form of a video when I return home. Until then, stay awesome, everyone! π
