This video blog will look closely at some Grant Green solos.
For each solo, I'll start by posting a video with me playing one chorus, and then subsequent videos looking carefully at the mechanics. Since I'm doing this in the morning before work, I wouldn't expect it to be more than a few measures per video.
I may refer to David Baker's How to Play Bebop, Vol. 1 (link below), since I'm also reading this book. Grant is such a straightforward player that he seems to be almost the paradigm of what David Baker is explaining.
I claim no expertise in jazz guitar! I just want to study improvisation, and Grant seems like a really good place to start: he plays very simply, but really nails the changes ... and swings hard. Doing this blog is a way to help me keep on target. If there are any other beginners out there who may benefit from it as well, great!
